POST cam gear settings please!
Hey guys... just installed a set of cam gears.
My car is basically stock - just a APEXi N1 catback, testpipe, and filter.
Curious as to know what cam gear settings on a car of this nature works best with. On my LS/VTEC that I had in my Civic Coupe I ran +4 intake, 0 exhaust... I know all cars are different, no need to flame. I don't have a dyno close... so I'd like to see if theres a general setting that works out best on a '98 R. Thanks.

I set them at +4 and 0 like my old car because I used the same head/cams/throttle body/intake manifold in it. And I think I feel a slight loss in top end pull at that setting...
Advancing it huh? I did +3 intake, -2 exhaust today and I got my midrange back... I'll have to try advancing the exhaust to see what it does. Thanks for the pointer.
Is this Mark?

how many times do people need to post about cam gear settings? How long will it take people to realize that it is DIFFERENT FOR EVERY CAR AND SETUP???
Get the car on a dyno and TUNE IT! THAT is how you make power

Couldn't have said it any better Jason. I just bought my cam gears and will tune them on the dyno with the VAFC to be installed. From what i know, the tuning process is to start advancing the intake cam until you start to lose power and then do the exhaust cam. Just my .02

If there was a dyno close to me, I would.
If you want to tell me theres no general setting that works better than 0, 0 on a bolton ITR, then you're dead wrong.
Seems the general concensus is + 2 to 4 on the intake cam.... and the exhaust cam, people have mixed opinions. Some say a mild retarding, some say mild advance.

I purchased cam gears about a year ago, and left them at 0,0 until I got them tuned and it was NOT a similar setup to what people were telling me...
Do what you want, but THIS is the truth and anyone that tells you different doesn't know what they are talking about.
I know all cars are going to differ.
But can you tell me that you know of a bolton ITR that made more power from a retardation of the intake cam?
You have to understand, I put cam gears on and have nothing better to do than ***-dyno them. Sue me.

I have never seen ITR cams make the best power at zero degrees.
Try advancing your exhaust cam a little, Louis.

so on this statement, I rest my case...if you care about making power, set them on a dyno!
You can go w/ someone's recommendations and wind up worse than you started.
hahaha, shutup Wes...
I'm at +3, -2, and the car is a different animal alltogether. Got midrange back, and the VTEC transition is 10x smoother than +4, 0.

Did I ever say I had ITR cams, slicknut?
There are no "general settings" that work best when it comes to cam gear tuning. Or fuel tuning. Or ignition tuning.
It's all up to the particular car. Take it to the dyno. Or at least take it out on the highway for some 3rd gear pulls and see what feels best
When you get them, don't panic... the bolts that lock the adjustment in place dont ever "stop spinning"... they snug up but won't get tighter after that.
Been driving for 2 days on them, no slippage.
