good tires for track?
just wondering if you guys would recommend the Falken Azenis for going to the track ( not the drag strip, the actual track ). I might be going this summer w/ a buddy ( type r ) and we are both looking into new tires, so maybe the Azenis? please help. thanks.

Are you looking for track tires only or half and half? Azenis are good track tires. I like T1-S as well. Not sure how well the S-03 handles track as far as treadwear. For good track only tires, get the RA-1 or A032.

However, if you are looking for a tire that you're only going to use at the track, then you may as well get an R compound (track) tire like the Yokohama A032R, the Hoosier R3S03, or the Kumho V700 Victoracer.

I would only follow that advice if this was NOT your first time on the track.. start out with street tires.

New username, huh Dave?
how about pirelli 's p700? they have a treadwear of 140 . So i'm assuming they are pretty sticky street tires. Has anyone tried them? BTW , they are also cheap to buy 50$ a tire.

TRUST ME... the P700 is an okay tire for the street, but the treadwear ratings are only comparable within a tire brand. The P700's are slicker then snot on marble (don't ask how I know).
As a comparison - I was 4 seconds faster on Re010's that were nearly corded/nasty shape on 2.5 mile course. I can spin all the way through 1st gear without dropping the clutch 1/2 way through 2nd.
Hope that helps.

A032's are no more, it's A038's now.
The A032R continues to be Yokohama's competition (track) tire available in the United States.
WOW. thank you guys for all your replys. here is the scenario.
this will be my first time at a track, but my associate has gone a couple times w/ his m3. he now has a type r ( am i repeating myself? ) anyway, he's lookin to get a good tire to go to the track with, and possibly keep as a street time, im looking into a good tire for mainly street, but im going to the track as well, and the azenis come in both 14 and 15 ( yes, sitll rollin' on the stock gsr 14"
).
For those of you with sway bars, would you recommend them for the track or not? i know it ballances out your car a lot better, but you can't feel it when it's gonna cut loose. do you just get used to where it's gonna give or is it a lot harder to tell? thanks for the advice.
Also, who makes all these s0s's and Ts-1 ( isn't that Toyo Proxy? ). keep in mind i have a 14" and he's got the stock gunmetal 15's. some sort of price range would be lovely as well.
the hoosiers and other ONLY track compounds-- can you guys give me a little more information on this? are they slicks, or are they just very stiffed sidewalled, very soft sticky compound? thanks for all your help guys, -later.
