Alright, the rear suspension on my car is definitely going out. It sounds like I'm riding around in an old wooden ship or something. So what I'm asking is what would be the best best suspension wise? I don't have all that much money, but I do need to eventually replace it.

I'm looking to also get some coilovers too, so information on that would be helpful.

Summary: My car is an old wooden ship, and I don't have baller status. What suspension do I need, including coilovers.

Umm that is a bit cheap for those, considering koni yellows go for about 500 alone brand new + GC's.

I have a 95 EJ1 also, and if your prepared to go cheap on coilovers, i wouldnt even bother. They ride like ****, unless you go top of the line. Either way, im not about coils. I have Suspension Techniques springs on mine and I love it! 2.3F 2R. Clean *** drop w/ no rubbing.

 

How much did you spend on it?

 

I have kyb agx's with cheap-o coil overs (RS Racing, go for about $100-150) and my car rides great.

Ground controls with koni yellows. Should be under 1k brand new.

My springs were 160-170 shipped brand new. Just do a search on google and you will find them. Believe me bro....they are an awesome ride, even on stock shocks. I know its not recommended, but ive been riding stock for 9 months now w/ absolutely NO problems.

EDIT: However, i am matching them w/ Tokico Illuminas in a couple weeks.

 

1995 Civic, do you have any pictures of your car lowered on those springs? I'm thinking about getting rid of my coilovers and going with some nice springs..

 

just get tein type s springs and you'll feel like your on cloud nine.

I dont have any pics of my car at the moment, but i can snap a few shots for you guys.

 

Ground Control coilovers with Tokico Illunminas.. I would suggest that setup. This can cost anywhere from $500-$700.

 

You need to watch out though...Illuminas are OEM replacement...depending how low you plan on going with them, they might blow out.

 

if you are willing to spend 600-750, you might as well go with TEIN BASIC... or even OMNI. i use omni and jump railroad tracks all the time. they work great for the money. i used to have TEIN FLEX

There have been big-time issues w/ the Omni coilovers...they might have fixed the problem, but i wouldnt be too sure.

Illuminas are not OEM replacement. That would be the Tokico HP's or like the Koni Reds (which they dont make anymore)

 

if you want coil-overs i would go with the skunk2 pro-series. Its a full damper setup. i have had bad experiance with coilover/shock set ups. thats why i went with nuespeed race springs and koni yellows. this is a great set up in my opinion.

hmm a lot of different setups here. so if i get some springs its not good to go stock suspension set up with the springs? i mean i would get new OEM ones, but would that not work out for me?

 

You would more than likely blow out your OEM shocks, and it wouldn't ride near as nice. Save up and do it right the first time, you will be a lot happier.

Like i said bro, I've been on Suspension Techniques springs w/ a 2.3F and 2R drop on stock shocks for almost a year now w/ no problems. I wouldnt recommend buying new OEM shocks however. Just get ST's w/ Tokico Illuminas and you will be very happy, i promise.

No problem dude. Illuminas are very similar to Koni Yellows w/ 5-way Adjustability.

 

yes, omni seemed to have problems with the front lower mount snapping. i have never seen the acutal cars with these setups nor have i seen the broken mount...but i have had my omnis since they first came out and i enjoy jumping railroad tracks, not slowing down for bumps, dips, whatever. my favorite passtime is to catch air in my little civic. granted, my omni's are at their max level in the back and matched in the front, i think they are great for the money...i came from a set of tein flex. i even survived a trek from anchorage,alaska to southern cali on the omnis during winter time on my ice tires...yeah, from alaska, through canada, down washington and oregon to california. no problems, the ALCAN is full of holes, dips, cracks and everything else. the road is basically all ice. i was averaging about 60 mph while moving on the ice roads.
