Just wondering if anyone has driven a new 06 yet? Has anyone heard anything about the traction control? Is it pretty intrusive or does it pretty much only activate when needed? The S2000 was pretty much off my list when I was car shopping for a replacement to my deceased Type R because anything I bought had to be a four seasons car (read snow) and talking to some S2000 owners, their responses were don't even try it. Now with traction control maybe its worth looking at one again.
The S2000 will get around in snow with snow tires and granny driving. If there is more than 4-5 inches though, you won't be getting around very well, maybe not at all. Considering you are Wisconsin and your need to drive it all year long, I suggest looking at other cars.

I have winter tires on my S2000. It does AWESOME on snow and ice. My driveway is steep and gravel (I live in the mountains in Colorado) and gets covered in ice and snow. I needed 4WD in an Envoy with winter rated all seasons, but the S2000 went up it easily.

I'm not sure that RWD is really all that bad in the snow with snow tires, but we're about to find out. I recently went from a Type R to a G35 Coupe. I'm sure RWD wouldn't do as well as AWD or maybe even as well as FWD, but I think it will do OK. Fortunately they do a pretty good job with keeping up with the snow here.

Which winter tire setup were you using?

I looked at them when I was replacing the R and really thought seriously about an STi. I really couldn't see myself in it for various reasons which I won't get into. My thinking is that AWD will help you get going, but won't really help you stop any better and that's where snow tires come in. Besides they do a pretty good job of keeping the roads clear here and if you get more then about 5-6" of snow at once none of them are going to get you through. We'll see if my thinking holds true after my first winter with the G. Of course it certainly won't hold true if my snow tires don't get here soon. They've been on back order for weeks now.

Even in 5-6, the sti and evo will do better than a g35 or s2k. Remember that both the evo and sti come with summer tires so you will be buying all seasons or winter tires, they will do much better in snow than our rwd cars.

So far I've been impressed with how well my G35 has been doing in the snow. Its got enough computer nannies to keep it out of trouble. I've only had one instance where it had trouble and it turned out it was because I hooked the rear wheel in an area of snow that was a little over a foot deep. My wife did the same thing in the same place with our A4 Quattro and it didn't do much better. We'll see how things go the rest of the winter.
The more I'm thinking of it though I don't think the S2000, even with traction control, would be the way to go and I might look at a Boxster S again eventually. I've seen plenty of them in Europe during winter and they seem to be fine.
