I know the 5th gen has a TSB for 5th gear grinding but i just wondering with anyone with a 5th gen stick tranny what type of problems they have had or have. I searched around but i just looking for people who may not of post about there tranny problems and have fixed them and what it was. I have a tranny problem right now and what it does is blocks me out of most gears(upshifting or downshifting) doesnt do it all the time. higher in the rpm better it mesh together. I feel my self sometimes in all gears like pushing the gear to mesh in better(like the syncros (Spelling not sure).. I had it down at a tranny shop that i trust and know, they r still not sure what it is, they feel what im talking about but just not sure if they know what it is. The owner is trying to help me out and said to bring it back monday and he thinks it is the linkage, whats to like the car over more.
any help or stories u guys have is great help with me.

I had problems with my 5th gen not long after buying it. Wouldn't go into gear, would crunch when it did and was just generally not happy. Asked a lot of people, had my clutch replaced (it died too but turned out it wasn't the problem), but still no luck. In the end it turned out that the oil in the gearbox was too heavy and hadn't been replaced for some time. Not sure what weight it was replaced with but it was thoroughly drained and replaced with a much lighter oil and since then it's been like a brand new one. Maybe not your problem, but how long has it been since you changed your oil?

 

i did the oil in the tranny but is the gearbox different, do i drained that from a different spot
