Default Can't raise GC's anymore?

So I went to raise my car up this morning, and the rears went up ok. However, when I went to do the fronts the spring is already against the top hat and is compressed a bit. So I can't really raise the perch anymore because theres too much pressure. Is that normal? Or should there be some slack on the spring. Its pretty low still.

I have the clip on the bottom niche of the konis, and the perch of the sleeve is about 13 threads from the bottom.

Thanks for the help

What you are experiencing is simple preload of the spring, that is what happens when you use a relatively long or stiff spring. If you want to raise the car more, use a spring compressor.

It is only in the relatively recent times of much stiffer spring rates and sometimes shorter lengths that people aren't always required to use a spring compressor. If you try putting your stock springs back on, you'd need one too.

thats what I thought. I can raise it a bit more, but there was a lot of tension on the spring. Having the shorter spring of the ground controls compressed before lowering the car off the jack wont affect the amount of travel the spring has will it? It seems like it would...

GC also sells a spanner wrench which can be used to preload the spring a great deal more if you like.

No it won't reduce the amount of spring travel you have. When your car is on the ground, the springs will be compressed the exact same amount no matter what the ride height is.

Example: 500lbs compresses a 500 lb/in spring 1". The same 500 lbs compresses the spring the same 1" weather its up on a table or down on the floor.
