Can you polish a header? I thought the heat changes the composition of the metal resulting in that rainbow color scheme. Since those colors are in the metal, not on the surface, I dont think you can simply polish them away.
Or maybe Im just completely full of ****. It's hard to tell nowadays.

I used wenol on my ss headers, and all the bronze went away leaving the polished look. It's starting to turn bronze again though... but it did remove all of the water spots, and oxidation.
don't know if you can tell but it was bluish/purple here:

and i wet sanded it with 1000/2000 grit sand paper and used mother's alluminum polish after and it turned out goldish after some fairly hard driving (auto-x's)

i noticed that my ceramic dc looks to have some rust spots after rinsing off the degreaser, but i was wondering if i tried to polish it would it turn out like yours?
Then after running for only 5 minutes:
Still some purple on one of the runners even though I installed it very carefully and with rubber gloves

yes it does.
After installing a buddies header on his eg...we sprayed the header with WD-40 and turned the car on and it baked on nicely to a goldish color.
Still that color after a year of driving

if you would have sprayed the header off with non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner it would have gotten rid of all the body oils.
lets see some pics of the WD-40'd headers.
