CRANK BOLT WAY TOO TIGHT!!!!!!
Guys I need some advice on how to break the crank bolt loose on the 1.5 engine in my 90 Civic sedan. I had this guy use 110 pounds of pressure with several air guns and couldn't budge it. Need to change the timing belt and can't get the crank bolt loose! HELP!!!!!

at least 160 psi air compresser.the one u were useing was prob. for roofing that aint going to work not strong enough.go to sears and get a good 1/2 ich impact gun.try spraying some JB blaster on it it should help[ it break lose.
The guy that tried it said he looked in a manual or something and said that bolt is only supposed to be torqued to like 98 pounds. I called a different shop and they said they had over 160 pounds on their air compressor. Hopefully that'll get it and not twist it off in the crank.

The crank pully is a complete and utter bitch. Yeah its only put on at 110 lbs of tourque or whatever but after time it tightens itself like no other. The best way to get it off IMO is to jam the flywheel with a huge screwdriver and have another person jump up and down on a large breakerbar probabley with a pice of pipe over the end attached to the crank bolt. It will ususally crack it loose after a while. If this frigtens you go to a shop and have them crack it loose with their biggest possible impact gun (your gonna want one capable of like 700 lbs or something) and have them put it back on super loose and then you should be able to drive it home and get it off without much of a problem.
i wouldnt jam the flywheel.if u notcie theres holes going though the crank pully thread bolts in there and put a bar inbetween the too bolts and the rear crossmemeber.theres a good link how to do it on zcr.com ill get the link.they say it work no porb. but i have never tried it.i will be doing it soon as i need to change my timing belt too.

the husky impact was on at only 90 psi the impact has up to 500 ft/lbs at that many psi. it took it off with 2 blows, when my other impact just refused to do it. Go to home depot and buy it. It saves so much time!
Well got the crank bolt broken loosen FINALLY! Took 160 psi and a big impact gun. Replaced the timing belt, water pump, crank seal, cam seal, tensioner and then when we put it back together, cranked up the air compressor and put the crank bolt back in at like 98 ft pounds like the book says you're supposed to. Drove it home (like a mile away) and about the time I drive up in my driveway, the bolt had backed itself out and the pulley was laying inside the dust cover. Fortunatley that tiny little key that goes in the pulley was laying in the too with the bolt. Damn that's a small key! Just how tight are you supposed to tighten that crank bolt back up that holds the pulley for the belts? My bud that has the air compressor is coming back this afternoon to retighten it. Suggestions? Thanks guys!
I've got a IR Titanium 1/2" impact at work, and it's 700 ft/lbs. It doesn't even break the majority of Honda crank bolts loose. The proper pulley holding tool and a big *** breaker bar generally do the trick.
Thanks Nitro! He cranked up his compressor to 160 which is right where the pop off valve blows and hit it a few times at that psi. Hopefully it'll hold.
