Default Do 96+ JDM H22 motor swaps Exist???

Trying to find a Jdm H22 (non-typeS) swap for my 96 civic, but everybody has only 92-95 jdm swaps. Did they stop making preludes after 95?

You just have to look around for an OBD2 H22 swap, I know I have seen some before.

why do you want a 96? any OBD2 motor from a JDM 5th gen should work...

i think he is saying 96 or later....remember that obd is called different things in japan....if i remember right obd2 here is obd1 there....just in case you are asking anyone over there...

oh and also, if they did mass sell them, thewould be probably almost double the price, thats how it goes with b16 swaps....

You can legally convert a pre obdII motor. You need some of the pulleys for the crank angle sensor, the sensor, a 96+ distributor, ecu and some of other bonus bits... It's been covered before but if you end up going this way let me know and I'll dig up more info. I tried for better then 2 months to track down a 96+ motor and had no luck at all.

Yes, this is in Cali, so I want to be able to BAR my car.

datac99: I thought the motor had to be the same year or newer than the car? How do they tell what year the motor is at the Ref station?

Nope it don't. Check out this page: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/replace.htm

Specifically under Japanese replacement engines it simply must be functionally equivalent. And BTW, I forgot that you will need a 96+ oil pump (Which you should change when you do the swap anyway along with your timing belt etc).

I actually called CARB about this and they confirmed that as long as the engine is functionally identical and all the emissions equipment is swapped over along with the OBDII conversion that your good. I've got a 93 block in my 96 right now, I have not had to get it smoged yet... But I can't see why it won't pass.

Hell, if the pigs ask you if you have an engine swap, just do what all the commercials tell you. "Just say NO" I doubt you will ever run into a cop that knows what the inside of your engine compartment is suppose to look like... Even the ones that are "trained", are just looking for obvious stuff... NOS plumbing everywhere, atmospheric waist-gates etc. (and that last one is a stretch), I think most of the time they just want to have you pop the hood to see if you sweat.

Remember your reaction to the cops is probably more important that what you were doing that got you pulled over in the fist place.

yeah but in that link, right under "Japanese replacement engines" it says:

Engine Changes
Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle:

The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle.

The engine must be from the same type of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight.

If the vehicle is a California certified vehicle then the engine must also be a California certified engine.

All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine.

After an engine change, vehicles must first be inspected by a state referee station. The vehicle will be inspected to ensure that all the equipment required is in place, and vehicle will be emissions tested subject to the specifications of the installed engine.
