Do body shops suggest you mount it first, then paint it? Or give them the pieces separately have them paint it, and then mount it?

This is what I hear from body shops:
If you want the real good paint job where they blend the paint into the body panels. Side skirts alone could cost you over $800 because nearly the whole side of the car has to be repainted. The same goes for the front lip and rear.

If you want the "okay" paint job. You just give them the pieces, they try to match it the best they can, and you mount it yourself. The color could be a little off, but it only costs $300 or less.

I called three body shops and they all told me this.

What did you guys do? And for those who had their kit painted for around $300 or less, how did it turn out? Thanks, I should be getting my 98+ front end soon...too bad it's yellow. Hehe.

i'll ******* spray paint if the body shops try and charge me $300 for those two pieces....and screw that color matching stuff, i'll give em the pieces and they can paint em.

I got quoted $250 for the whole kit (Rear clips and side skirts).. I would go elsewhere if you get quoted any more than $125.

yeah just get em painted alone, give em the pieces and have them painted the color code of your car. they'd charge more if you wanted them to color match and fade it into the current probably slightly dulled state of your car. And yeah, it'd be $100 or so.

i only gave them my pieces. the place thats doing it does a good job at color matching so i am really not worried about the color.

I got mine done for almost $80. I think the manager managed to give me a good deal because it took so long b/c they kept having to be sent back.

The "mount it first" philosophy isn't necessary with the OEM kit. It's OEM, so it fits perfect. If it was some ghetto riceboy setup then you'd want to test fit it first.

As far as colormatching, $800 is INSANE. No way...I paid $225 to get my OEM kit painted, that includes both sideskirts and rear pieces. It matches perfectly fine (better than the damn bumpers do! ).

If you are getting them painted, I would suggest giving them the pieces, the paint code for your car, and your gas filler door. If they have the door, they should be able to get a perfect match the first time.

How old is your car? Mine is a 97 so the Milano Red is slightly faded. I got pre-painted OEM side skirts and you can tell the color is just a tiny bit off. Skirts aren't as noticable, but I painted the whole bumper that I'm going to be receiving in that fashion, any difference will be VERY noticable.

Gas filler door, eh? Did you do this? How did the paint match up? Thanks.
