that doesn't sound that bad to me
i get my oil changed every three thousand mile, but check it about every week

I'm not sure, since I don't have my VTec motor in my car yet, and I've never driven one, except for my friends '97 SOHC VTec Accord, which I didn't check the oil for him.. So I dunno..
But if you're hitting VTec and staying in high RPMs when you're driving I wouldn't dout that you'd use up that oil..
VTec = Uses Oil to work = Down side

My engine doesn't burn hardly any oil!
I change mine regularly and check it periodically in between changes! I have never had it fall more than maybe 1/4 quart or so before my next change!
And I DRIVE MY CAR HARD!
I have only put about 6k on my swap though so maybe its just to early to tell?

Thats the thread I did... But small amounts of oil burning from what I gather is "normal" according to everyone. I just dont have small amounts though, haha.

Does anyone know what' in the acceptable range for Honda? I seem to burn maybe 1/3 of a quart every 2- 2.5 weeks, roughly 600-700 miles. I burn a little more if I'm activating VTEC.
Mine burns 1 litre of oil roughly every 3k miles 97 base with 83 k miles on the clock, it has always used this amount throughout it's life and I consider this to be normal usage.

because it's an h22...
because it's an h22...
my old H22 use to go through oil like crazy, not even driving that hard. Could be a problem from the break-in period.
My H23a drank oil like crazy but my JDM H22a engine does not. The difference I think is that the japan cars are taken better care of and they are given the proper break in schedule. The valve seals and piston rings need to seat properly in order for oil not to soak past them and thus burn. It comes down to being able to properly break in the engines in order to get the best out of them. If you are at a honda dealership in 2001 test driving a new 01 prelude (for example) with 8 miles on it and taking it to 7500 rpm on each shift just to see what it can do, then this is not good.....

Very good point! That seems to possibly make sense.
