Default Anyone here using a Miller Maxstar 150?

I'm probubly going to get this instead of the dynasty 200. I don't really feel the extra 1500 dollars is worth it to me, especially if I'm not planing on welding aluminum.

I was just wondering how you guys like yours, or if you have any reccomendations?

I'm hoping I can weld up to schedule 40 stainless without having to wire in a new outlet into my garage.

TIA
Bryson

Use soon loosely, around 2 to 3 months. Hopefully.

They are too big, and weigh too much.

The size of the maxstar is worth the $...to me.

Wow...I just got back from my local Miller retailer, and damn. Those things are TINY! I couldn't beleive how small the actual unit is.

I am definetly going to go with this welder.

the torch on this unit is air-cooled or water-cooled? I couldn't find the info on it...it would seem like the perfect welder for me too...let me know how it works out for you. I'm going to try to get my gf to get it for me for x-mas and my b-day

All of the maxstar models come with an aircooled torch. I think it is a great starter setup, especially the STL which is a tig stick combo.

The kit comes very complete with a regulator, torch and even a consumables kit (extra tungstens, collets and collet bodies) its pretty much ready to go out of the box besides a bottle and gas.

I was going to go for the maxstar 150STL, but I got a smoking deal on my syncrowave 180 (200 bucks more than what the maxstar retails for) so I went for it instead.

Yeah, you gotta love the inverter technology making these units so small!

I've decided that I'm going to get the STH instead though. I think the extra 400 bucks for the HF start, makes it worth it.

But yeah, I couldn't beleive how small they are. Its even smaller than my toaster!!!

i know many professional process welders who can weld pipe awsome with that machine, its well worth the money if your just welding stainless. they are so small!

that isnt a "starter" welder, they are great when u have to transport your welder.

i would skip the 150, it limits you so much, at work i weld with xmt 304's and maxstar 200's....the 200 is worth the extra amout for the othe stuff that you can weld with it.....we mostly do stick but they also work pretty good for tig.....

THanks
Stephen

I agree. Id go with the TA185 or Sync 180. And portability...?? Ever tried to lug around a 150cf bottle of argon? For one they are big, and two, there defenitely not light. Everyone seems to look past that major road block....the welder mayt be small but the argon bottles sure arnt. If you want to TIG weld, do it for yourself, that way its always done at your house. If you want to get into production, then have people bring stuff to you....you dont need to be running all over town with your welder. And to me, transporting one is just asking to be damaged by dropping or transportation someway..

I have very little garage space. And your also overlooking the fact that there are hundreds of different sizes of bottles. I would rather carry around the small welder and 2 small bottles, than lug around a huge welder and 1 large bottle.

Welp it's ordered. I ordered the STH with contractor kit, and a miller auto darkening helmet from cyberweld.com

I can't wait to get it in my hands...

Nice grab. I believe Full-Race uses the Maxstar 150's alot. I remeber saying "Holy crap thats a small welder!" when I was there last spring.

I just ordered the Miller Econotig today. I also can't wait to get it in my hands.

Also, (i apologize for thread jacking) I heard the syncrowave 180s arc assist can screw up electronics in close proximity. Something about the assist being different from the other lower model machines? I dunno. Probably just hear-say.

Edit: I remember. They have a High Frequency Assist.

In the manual it shows how to hook up the power source, and if you don't do it right you can in fact mess up a few things.

any tig with high freq will mess stuff up , the screen on my cell phone gets messed up all the time from welding , sorry to say but cancle the order on the econotig and get a 180sd , i had a econotig and they do not have high freq and they suck , they are not worth it when you can spend a couple of hundred more and get a way better welder

I would have went with the MS 200 just for the control pedal. The MS150 may not be able to weld aluminum because its a DC only machine. I remember I was going to pick one up and before I did, I had to make sure it can do the things I wanted to. Non the less, its a great small but powerful machine.

Hrmm, definetly good to know. I always have my phone on me, and I do not want to expletive it up. If I'm welding in the garage, might this have any effect on an ECU within say 12ft?
