can i just apply any kind of wax onto cf hood?

Just use some turtle wax paste and 200 grit sandpaper works wonders!

i wax my hood...i use three step meguiar clean/polish/wax.....

i tried that and it was ok, it didnt shine as much as sanding it with 800 grit and then waxing it up. this is how it looked after i was done and this hood had some really bad oxidation on it:
