Transmissions..................................... ............
Where is a good place to get a tranny (a performance tranny) That isn't $2000 and up? Does anyone know? I was talking to a guy at gear speed and they want $2000 but that comes with the Quaiffe and the schryos. And any color I want. Which isn't that big of a deal. But that is a little much for a SOHC tranny I think anyway. I just want to know if there is anymore places where I can get a performance tranny. Thanks
the tranny is the best part of a single can.....you can buy like 20 transmission for 500 bucks. just keep replacing them as needed

exactly plus the synchros all the new parts and the expert assembly that gear speed provides. youre definatly getting what you pay for.

you can either keep buying stock trannies for next to nothing,or actually spend some money for a good buildup.
yes,you can get used D-series trannies for next to nothing.but, how long will it last?what condition is it in?you still need an LSD if you're serious about getting any traction.if it's for a lower power/street car, just using cheap trannies will be fine.
if it's a car making good power, and especially if racing, then you'll have to spend some money.figure $800-$900 for an LSD.a few hundred in parts(i spent over $400 on synchros, bearings and seals to rebuild my last tranny),and the tranny itself.factor in a little money for labor, and $2000 isn't overpriced in the least.of course,if you can do the work yourself, the price could go down considerably, but you've got to buy parts regardless.you will spend over $1000 on parts no matter what.
if you can't do the work yourself, your only choice is to pay somebody else, period.you can't expect it to be free.

As for as the SOHC transmissions, I don't care if you spend 1 dollar or 2000.00 dollars on one.... The fact is, if you are making some serious h.p. with a single cam setup you are going to break transmissions... (syncros and an lsd are not going to solve the bearing issues that the sohc transmissions have).... The best thing to do is gather up as many good stock transmissions and replace them as needed... The only other thing to do is have a transmision adapter built, single cam to b- series transmission adapter plate to become available... This will be very expensive though... Keep in mind though, you will still damage b series transmissions also.... They can hold up to a lot more abuse.... thats my 2 sense, Jasen
