help me tune up my 2001 accord 4cyl
I recently purchased a 2001 accord 4cyl 2dr and have been looking for ways to give it a little more power (not that it needs any). so far I have purchased some ngk plugs wires and a new rotor and cap and some prolong. Im pretty new when it comes to fixing up cars is there anything external I can change to boost the hp. Im trying not to void my warranty till I have it paid off in about a year or so then I want to get into the block pistons shaft ext. I was thinking about a new muffler would that effect the hp? also have you seen those chips they sell on ebay what do you guys think. any suggestions? thanks

huh??...a muffler isnt gonan do ****...a full exhaust system may give you a few ponies. those chips are just little resistors, and are very dangerous to put into your car

Also you might want to Replace, check, and/or clean your Air filter. If you still have a stock air filter I would highly recommend gettin a K&N, won't really increase HP, but it will improve your throttle response and possibly give ya better gas mileage.
If you got the money, go for an exhaust header, although that may void the warranty.

this may sound dumb but would a throttle body spacer and new injectors help? what brands would you guys suggest for exaust and injectors?
injector are a overkill, you don't really need a upgrade, maybe not even need to "clean" the injector by the pro.
tb spacer doesnt worth the 80 buck, spend it on tire, gas instead

My friend, let me give you an advice, and I really think this is a good one!!!
Do not do anything to your car unless it's regular maintenence. First of all, the car isn't yours yet, so I think you should wait until so. Maybe by them, you will know if extra horsepower really is what you are wanting from the engine. When you say pistons and stuff like that, dawg.. that's spending money.... so... Wait one year, which I'm sure is going to fly by.... after that... get... Intake, Header and Exhaust..... better known as " I/H/E ", get short shift, new suspension, new pulleys, new clutch, cam gear, flywheel and you would be "very good" by then!
But let's just wait for now.... and don't pay attention to stupid comments like "??...a muffler isnt gonan do ****...".
Peace out man!!!

How about this... Upgrade your tires, springs, shocks, sway bar(s) and bushings, in that general order. Give it time and get a feel for your car and what needs improvement vs what you can afford (legally an financially) to do. Then look into some bolt-on mods. You won't see huge gains, but at this point it looks as if internals or boost is out of your league.

Simply changing out the muffler for an aftermarket one will NOT give you any gains on these cars. Please refrain from calling someone's comments "stupid" until you actually know what you're talking about.

A after market "performance" muffler is less restrictive, therefore the air flows easier, creating horsepower!
I'm sorry... but yes, the dude had a stupid comment and a stupid way of saying it.

yes, but any effects of a perfomance muffler would be negated by stock crush-bent 2" exhaust piping and minimal flowing cast iron exhaust manifold

Exactly as momstaxi said... only i believe it's 1 1/78". gianinline, i'm not sure what your experience is with the F23 motor, but if you had any, you would know that this 6300rpm torque monster doesn't offer much in the way of horsepower gains. If you open up the exhaust, then it's kind of like the magic fairy comes and takes away all of your torque. Torque is what gets a car off the line, torque is what makes a car feel snappy and quick. Without it, well, you might as well go play in the civic forums.

Yes, a muffler won't do anything. You still have that tiny exhaust choking it up. Expect to see .2 hp at the wheels after changing mufflers. Exhaust system would be what would free up the most power for you, if you wanted to free up some power, get a good header with a 2.5" collector, a high flow cat or test pipe, and an exhaust system.
But before you do that, i'd say invest in some 16 or 17" wheels with some good tires, drop the car on some quality springs (Tein, H&R, Eibach, Neuspeed, Sprint) and good adjustable shocks (KYB AGX, Tokico Illumina, Koni Yellow) or coilovers (Omnipower, Apex'i, Ground Control). So after wheels and drop, get a good quality one piece strut bar (not the cheap ebay ones), and a good sway bar. See how far you really want to go. I have to say, with the same money and effort you put into an accord, the same money and effort in a civic will put it well into the 12's while the accord is still in the 14's...accords are just heavier and take more to make fast.
But good luck
