Default mpg on d16a6?? help me out please

I drive a 88 std with a swaped in D16a6. I am only getting 20 mpg. Is this common. I have no engine mods, a good air filter, a recent oil change with full sythetic. The car is a little under 2000 lbs. I ask because my d15 was getting 36 mpg and I didn't think it would drop this much. any help?

20mpg is low, even for an a6. I'd check your timing, your distributor, plugs, wires, oil, etc. there are a few other things that could cause this too that you might need to check.

i got 30+ no matter how i drove in my SI with AEM intake and just catback exhaust

did you keep the 4-speed trans also did you just swap the motor and leave the dual point manifold on the motor possibly try some fuel injector cleaner

i see a steady 32 mpg on the highway w/ the cheapest garbage gas possible. around town in the 20's somewhere depending on how many hills and stuff.

either way, it's better than a damn prius!
