Default 1998 Civic: temperature sometimes goes all the way to H!

Hey guys, my sister has a 98 Civic DX and she says that sometimes the temp gauge goes all the way to the "H". She recently had an oil change and had the coolant topped off.. not sure if they bled it or not. But this problem has been happening before that.

What could the problem be? Thermostat sticking? Any ideas? TIA

or the fans not working. wich could be fan switch or even maybe temp sensor is bad. is there any cels? try flushing the coolant too.

Does it happen when the car is in motion, sitting still or both?

Stop driving the car until you figure out what it is that's causing the problem. Unless you feel like putting a new head on the engine when she warps the current one, or when she fries the headgasket and rings and all the other goodies that need to not be 5000 degrees.

Obviously something is wrong. The thermostat may be stuck, the radiator fan may not be working properly, and many other things could cause this.

Did she have the 90,000 mileage work done?
