B16 gas hog?
Hey everyone. I'm concerned about how much gas my b16 eats and wondering if this is normal or if anyone else has this issue.
I've have a B16a1 in my crx si and I'm getting between 20 and 25 mpg. This is only one of several problems I have with this engine.
To cover our bases on the questions, I have CAI, walbro 190 fuel pump with B&M FPR and gauge, and just recently put in NGK Iridium spark plugs.

that is about what I am getting too, I think a different tranny than the j1 I have might alieviate the problem a little (5th sucks ***** on the highway), but I also heard converting to obd1 helps a little too.

I check all of your vacumm lines I had a friend have a vaccum problem and he got horrible mileage. Mine got aroun 35mpg stock, then once I had cams, 12:1 and such I was only getting 25-30mpg. It also depends on how you drive allot, wheel weight and tire size, and a bunch of other crap. I switched from my HXes to my Koseis w/ 205's on them and lost about 3-5mpg, on my beater. Time to buy new tires for the HXes.
check your fuel pressure.
are you throwing any cel codes also?
i got like 15 mpg with my b16 and with my zc i got around 35-40 even when i used to rip on it alot.
but my fpr was just set to high

well i got like 240 to a tank on my stock b16a jdm motor and that was with a y1 tranny and at 80 miles a hour yes it would be at 5 grand yuck thats horrible but now I got a 93 gsr in another crx I own now with a 92 ls tranny longer gears so its now like 4500 at 80 its better and i lie that beeter.

Okay, so.
1) ECU is not throwing any codes.
2) I forget what the Fuel Pressure is set at and it's too dark out to check now, but I'll get to it tomorrow hopefully.
3) What's wrong with NGK Iridiums? The engine seems to be liking them.
And to whoever said "gas is so cheap" ... i could kick you LOL. $20+ to fill up a tank in a CRX is not acceptable.

my obd1 b16 is sooooooo so soooo so good on gas. I drive to school 3 days a week and work 3 or 4 and don't have to fill up for at least a week maybe even 2 and school is pretty far. sorry don't have any exact #'s but mine is great on gas thats not even with a full tank either

A P30 ECU is the solution to your problems. Pre-1992 electronics suck, plain and simple. The fact that my JDM B18C5 gets better mileage than my A6 ever did is proof of that.

Okay I have an OBD0, and I've considered doing OBD1 swap, but the shop I take the car to hasn't messed with B16s in forever, so they don't remember how to do it. Anyway, should my fuel be set at 42psi for the obd0??
Is a P30 an OBD1 ECU, cuz if it is, I dunno how to do the conversion
I know the B18s are awesome on gas, but I don't have that
Honestly, I don't know what tranny I have.
I at least feel better knowing some of you people have the same problem.

Ok a p30 is an obd 1 ecu, and is out of the usdm del sol. And to convert your ecu it is not that tough, just get a jumper harness to convert your obd0 plugs into obd1. You will have to wire up your 1 4 wire o2 sensor and get a del sol or civic si header but that is not tough.

38mpg? I hate you
LOL. I would be happy to get 30mpg right now ... 38 is a stretch haha.
Okay, and for dude talking about the conversion ... I don't understand wiring and electronic stuff, so I'm not sure if I could do the conversion myself. And headers? yep, too poor for any of this stuff now.

Okay, upon inspection I found out that my fpr is set at over 45psi
OUCH. My problem is that I'm unsure how to go about lowering the pressure ... is it as simple as turning the nut on the fpr counter-clockwise to reduce pressure?
