I assume this is a CAI? Using just a CAI isnt going to give you a huge boost in performance, sure its better, but most likely, not something that you'll notice too much.

He's reffering to the Comptech short ram intake + icebox combo. It's a short ram intake with the filter enclosed in a plastic box with a tube that goes down and sits down in the bumper. Air gets routed through the tube and up into the box where the filter is.
I don't have any experience with it, but have read nice things about it. If my car was N/A, this would be the intake setup I would buy...I really like Comptech's products.

I upgraded from a generic short ram, and it is a world apart. Faster accleration, more power on the butt dyno, clean looking in the engine bay and also a smooth non-ricey intake sound. Also, I don't have to worry about hydrolock, which is a big thing in hawaii, lots of rain and deep unexpected puddles...
worth the price in my opinion.

As for different filters, it may be possible to fit a K&N replacement, but I'm not sure...why do you want to change the filter?

you can get a k&n to fit anything...
they make a million crazy little attachments so even if you want the biggest cone filter they make, there is a fitment to connect it to 3" piping...

if i wasnt so lazy, id go take a picture of mine so you could see it.

yeah, i figured it would fit the pipe, but the lid of the icebox not fitting securely is what may cause problems. It's a pretty snug fit.

The USDM Type R filter will fit in it perfectly.

the reason i want to know is i know the comptech filter doesnt drain enough air, its hard to explain, a mate of mine has 1 for the s2k and the filter doesnt do much, that why im asking about other ways of putting aftermarket filters in the box
