real high voltage.....i need suggestion

Default real high voltage.....i need suggestion

my 97 honda civic has 18v at the batt. anyone know what this problem could be and where i should start to fix it. Also will this cause a problem to the car?

check the voltage regulator,probably your alternator

is the voltage regulator internal the alternator or seperate.....and if it is seperate would i be able to tell if i turn the key to the on postion and not start the car and if the voltage is high then it is prolly the regulator.

regulator is internal. I would just suggest a new alternator, rather than pulling it apart and fixing it. All you have then is a used alternator with a good regulator.
