Need help. Engine question..
Cliffs notes first: Car starts and idles, engine power is severely reduced, and there is a VERY loud knocking on the distributor side of the engine..
Whole story:
I was driving down I-5 and a BMW M3 wanted to race, so I downshifted into 3rd to race. When I did, it almost felt like I slammed on the brakes and the car wouldn't accelerate very well. I wasn't going to fast for 3rd like bouncing off rev or anything, so I immediately forgot about the race and started thinking about the car. I shifted into 4th gear and it still accelerated but nothing like it should. I put the car in neutral when I pulled off the side of the road and the car immediately died.
I had no idea what had happened so I tried to start the car and see if it would run. It started almost like normal, I just had to give it some gas. It idled normal but there was now a VERY loud and distinct knocking. I called a tow truck and haven't started the car since.
*Some of my friends say that I threw a rod. But would the car still start and idle with a thrown rod? Blown head? I am sure that someone on H-T has encountered this and knows what this is, ALL REPLIES ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED...*

Thank you!! Would the rod still be good??

chances are not, if you drove on the car like that or even heard the noise for a minute, most likely the rod will have gotten "heated" it will look all purple and **** when you pull the engine apart. also, you may have a fuked up crank(same thing as the rod)

Will I need a new rod(s) if it in fact is "heated?"

yes, if its heated, you will need a new rod, and if the crank looks heated you need a new one of those too.
