rpms bounce and engine stall while driving?
hello, my 4th gen 1993 prelude has recently started having an issue with keeping rpms stable while driving and will occasionally stall, while driving. I called roadside the first time the car did it as I didn't feel confident enough to move the car back into traffic until i had a second opinion. The mobile mechanic said he noticed that the hose from the IACV wasn't properly connected where it hooks up to the engine (little black hose with a green cap?)
It can't be my distributor as I just replaced it last week due to that failing.
The revs bouncing mostly happen shortly after turning the car on, I usually let the car warm up for about 5-10 minutes before driving because I've noticed that it makes a difference in how much the rpms bounce after i start driving, but the car has only turned off whilst the car has been moving at traffic speeds.
I'd feel confident in saying it's definitely the IACV but what I'm noticing is different from what others are showing that has been reaffirmed as the IACV
*What my car is doing
- hesitates to start up occasionally (usually when it's colder outside) and mostly on the first start up of the day
- idling revs are sitting about 500-600 higher than usual
- when the revs bounce, the car does kick a little, but it's subtle and you can't hear it as loud as you can in other people's videos
*recently my hazards have been going off when i open my door - turns off shortly after the door is shut regardless of the car being on or off. I've been told that's a sign of my immobilizer failing, and pressing the little black button should sort it, that did nothing at all. also the car came with an immobilizer remote that only made the hazards go off, car would start and drive fine.
Any help or information on this at all would be great, I gave as much information as I could because the more information you have, the more appropriate response I hope

Re: rpms bounce and engine stall while driving?
quick what to do list
usually these things fix bad idle or/and hesitations:
- new spark plugs & wires
- new distributor cap & rotor
- new air/fuel filters
- clean injectors/iacv/egr/fitv
- bleed the coolant
- new pcv
- adjust valves and ignition
- adjust idle from tb's screw and throttle cable
- check does sensors work properly: map, iat and tps (and try calibrating tps)
- then check wires, connectors and hoses
check o2 sensors and vacuum/exhaust leaks (check all the seals - IM/header/TB gaskets, injector seals, maybe even buy valve cover gasket set...)
check timing. after that: double check timing
clogged cat might you give some trouble as well (usually when driving) - check cats condition
those are basic maintenance as well.
