Default d16y8 distributor vs d16z6

hey I was woundering if the d16y8 and the d16z6 distributors have different timing? I was told that they do and if I used a chip in my ecu for a d16z6 when I have a d16y8 dizzy the timing will be off? is this true?

My best guess would have to be that they could be used interchangeably. I believe there's a difference in the cam and the location for the woodruff key used to locate the cam gear as far as timing goes, but I would just make sure the distributor is wired properly, as z6 has obd1 plugs and the y8 has obd2. Check the timing with a timing light. I am using a 92 d15b8 distributor on a y8 engine, and I can easily dial in the timing with a light at idle.
