suspension question
what is the difference between a coilover and just spring+shock. I want to low down my ride, if i just buy a set of coilover, will it do the job? Besides, anyone heard about a brand called "Bomz", i see a lot of their product on ebay.
Drop springs are just a set of shorter springs that lower the ride height of your vehicle with stock struts. Coilovers are a combination of springs and struts made as a singe system and sold as one unit.
Bomz is a cheap Ebay brand and I wouldn't spend money on their suspension products (from what I have heard...I haven't used their products).

Bomz makes sleeved springs (ebay calls them coil-overs). The ride quality sucks... don't buy these. Get a nice shock/spring setup and you'll be fine.
Coil-overs' are just that. Coil (springs) mounted over a modified shock / strut. This was a common practice on early european production cars, and was first seen in the "states" on the Jaguar XKE, XJ6, XJS and XJ40 rear suspensions. It has been embraced in the roadracing community in MOST performance chassis, but not for the reasoning you'd first think of. Space limitations and specific suspension designs.
Both designs, Coil-over and standard spring locations have no inherant advantages over each other.
Coil-overs are embraced in this community for several reasons, and several only.
1) They Look Cool - The Oooooh factor
2) With a strut with an adjustable lower spring mount, they are infinitely adjustable for height. (Which begs the question: who has infinitely adjustable camber kits?)
The same lowering effect can be achieved with shortened springs for the stock location.
