Making a system... any recomendations?
Alright, i just got a 01' Civic LX as far as i know (very little at the moment) I have the 6 speaker system so I figure fill in the following and open my mind to what's good out there and some prices if you would be so kind. Nothing top dollar, but not crap either. I installed my last system so i know a little about what im getting into... just want some suggestions.
2 sets....6.5" Component Speakers:
1 set.....6x9" Speakers:
1..........Head unit:
1..........6ch amp (for components and 6x9"):
1..........2.5 farad cap (seems like enough):
1..........2ch amp (for subs):
2..........12" subs:
My last system (don't laugh, i was poor):
2..........12" 500W (RMS) Pyramid subs
2 sets...6x8" audiobahn component speakers (i forget the rating)
1..........2000W Soundstorm Stretch Daddy
1..........POS head unit but least it had Pre-Outs
I could use the 12's and the 2ch. amp for the mean time but i would like to replace them eventually.... Thanks much

I would ask the same question why 2 sets of 6.5"............
This is what I would recommend..........
1- Your most important part of the system, [everything from SQ to control will depend on it] The HU, there are more then a few good ones out there, IMO Alpine, http://www.alpine.com makes the best HUs out there, but Pioneer, Panasonic and Eclipse are up there also, Now a days for under $500 US you can get a HU with everything built in, [high power internal amps, x-overs (2 or 3 way), parametric EQs, time delay, most if not all digital] 3 sets of pre outs, [front, rear and sub] with sub bass control, [x-over, volume, phase] and most HU now have some kind of AUX input, and some have ADPT. for iPod input and control.
2- One good set of components, [2 way or 3 way] for the front, again more then a few out there, I prefer the sound of Eclipse, http://www.eclipse-web.com but Alpine, MBQuart, JL Audio also make some good stuff, there is better brands out there, but the price jump is significant.
A good set of mid range/mid bass drivers is all that I would install into the rear of the car, tweeters in the rear, [and /or too many sets of speakers firing from too many places, (not coupled)] will make it hard if not impossible to "image/stage" the system properly.
3-Sub bass will depend a lot on what kind of bass you want, clean, tight and accurate or a ground pounder, [not that you can't have both, just more expensive]
And just like speakers, what you get in a sub/s will depend on how you like the sound of them, IMO JL Audio, http://www.jlaudio.com makes a pretty good sub, and a wide enough range of them so you should be able to find what you need for whatever kind of sub bass you are looking for.
4- Amps, again there are lots of good ones out there, but I do like the JLs, Good dependable amps.
As for pricing, they can vary so much not only from country to country, [I am in Canada] and state to state, but even between your local retail outlets, the the best price is the one you get by shopping around.
I will make a suggestion, buy only from authorized dealers, and support your local retail dealers, you will pay a little more, but IMO the service is worth it, espessialy if you have any kind of warranty problem.
