HOw to install front speakers
Hey you guys, I need more info on how to install my 6-1/2" speakers in the front of my 99 civic hatch cause the magnet in the back is big so it wont fit and how will i have to custom it?
take off door panel to and unscrew the speaker basket itself ( where the speaker mounts to) you can cut off the plastic backing to it to allow for larger speaker magnets. cutting the backing allows for a bit more depth
The easiest way is the way Slain explained it, I would add only cut away as much as you need for the magnet to fit through.
If that does not give you enough depth, you can add a spacer between speaker and oem speaker mount, kind of like a thick gasket, depending on the speaker you have, [height] you can add up to 1/2" of spacing without interfering with the door panel, again depending on speaker, you may have to do some modifying to the door panel so it will fit.
The other and better option is as ITB mentions, is to remove the plastic oem speaker housings and make your own custom MDF housings, a fair amount of work to do properly, but not hard, and will make any speaker sound better.
