And there are many varieties to chose from as well.

for a daily driver would it harm the engine if there was no intercooler? what would hppen? i thought the air goin in would just be warmer wat affect does it have on the engine? i only plan to boost 5-8psi which isnt that much

No, this is called pre-ignition. Detonation is uncontrolled burning of the Air/fuel mix, and the flame fronts in the combustion chamber collide, causing extreme heat and impact on the pistons/rods/cylinder walls. It can lead to extreme damage, or a blown engine.

Pre-ignition is caused by hot spots in the combustion chamber lighting off the air/fuel mix, before it compresses and is fired by the spark plug. It can still lead to damage, but is not as bad as detonation.

To prevent both, you need to add fuel, or up the octane rating of the fuel. A more rich mixture will actually run cooler eliminating pre-ignition and helping detonation by providing a more stable air/fuel mixture. You can also retard the timing to get rid of detonation.

But to answer the question about the hot air going into the engine. This warmer air has a big effect on the engine. The warmer air will make it run hotter, as well as make way less power, since the air is less dense. You are actually getting less air per given volume, since the air molecules are farther apart. An intercooler will make way more power, and it'll make conditions in the combustion chamber safer, and more detonation friendly.
