severe Overheating problem (noob question)
the temperture gauge always reads hot and my rpms at idle bounce up and down, i look under the car and coolant is leaking, is it cuz i have a leaky hose which causes it to overheat? sometimes i can smell something burning or i see a little bit of smoke coming out of the hood. what should i replace or check for.
First things first, you need to locate the source of the leaking/smoke. That will take you into the direction you need to go. Is it steam/white smoke? Try sourcing the steam. Some helpful areas to look at include:
Main hose from engine to radiator (including underside, by removing it) this kind left coolant splattered on my firewall and top of bay.
Water Pump this kind leaked on my drivers side and drips on the drivers side of the engine.
Head Gasket Search HT for symptoms (not sure of affect on idle)
Radiator itself Search...
As far as the bouncing RPM's the only thing I know of is a loose FITV valve, located just undet the Throttle Body. Which you can fix yourself. A pictorial step by step can be found at Team-Integra.Net.
