Front tires rubbing on swapped ej8
I'm having the exact opposite problem as most of the members on here. My front tires, not the rears, are rubbing. Before my swap it would only do it on a big bump but now it does it on moderately small ones. I'm running 205/40/17 with tokiko illuminas set at '3' all around and Tein H-Tech civic springs (215/110). I also have a skunk2 camber kit in the front and a no-name brand in the rear.
To the question...I've heard about people rolling their fenders and It seems like it might help me but since my fenders and my bumper are already jacked up, would switching to a 99-00 front give me a little more clearance?
Also, I've checked spring rates and my H-tech's have a slightly higher spring rate over a Gs-R stock, but does the drop itself need to be factored in when looking at the rates? If i wanted to get a set of Gs-R aftermarket springs, would the just fit over my Civic tokiko illuminas?
-Thanks-
Update/Cliff notes: So the info given to me was that I have a couple of options. Since my tire diameter isnt bigger than stock I could:
- lower the width of the tire
- use integra springs w/ my car (97' ex) since their spring rate is higher
- Roll the front fenders for a little more clearance
-Thanks to everyone that helped-

usually the front rub, do they rub all the time or just in shart turns? and you are rubbing because you have 17's whats the offset of the rims?

yes, the drop needs to be considered when comparing spring. that's why your aftermarket springs are a higher rate than the stock gsr's. integra springs and civic springs are the same, except for the spring rate, so yes they are interchangable. a higher spring rate or smaller wheels will solve your problem.

Well i really dont want to go to a smaller wheel because: a) i dont have the funds b) Even when i drop to 16'' when my tires go out, i still want them to be stock diameter and the overall size wont shrink.
Anyone have any pics of their front fenders being rolled?
Anyone have Tein Gs-R springs they use? Any feedback? Will i have any issues since my civic is 4dr?

civics come with stock 14" wheels. you can't expect to throw on a 17" wheel, then lower the car that much and expect to have no problems.
just get some smaller wheels when you can.
i still want them to be stock diameter and the overall size wont shrink
what exactly are you saying there?

thx for the bump but you dont know what your talking about. Tein H-techs are a 1.5 - 1.3 in drop. I have 17'' w/ 205/40 tires. Basically i havent lowered my car that much and the diameter of my wheel+tire is the same as stock.
If you kept my entire sentence in context it might make more sense. I was stating that even if i go to 16'' , I would still want to keep the stock diameter. Maybe this will help you
185/65/14 (stock) = 205/40/17 (where im @ now) = 205/50/16 (where i would be if i bought 16'')
Play with this thing and you'll understand more about tire sizes: http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

just call up tein and see how much they would charge for 2 new front springs. I ran into this after my h22 swap too. Ground control sold me 2 new prelude spring rate springs at $60 each, and no more rubbing. I'm lowered close to 2" on 205 45 16's, so we have very similar wheel gap.
something is wrong... i have near the same set up as you .
actually i thought you were talking about my car, thats how close it sounds. i got a b18c, tokico shocks and springs. All same setting and same size wheels.
good luck

he said he has tein h-tech springs, not tokico. do you know the spring rate of your tokico springs? That or stiffer would probably work for him since the rest of your setups are so similar.

Actually, you're not getting it. Those 205/40/17 may be roughly the same diameter as stock BUT they are wider and they are sitting in a different place than before. Also, every manufacturer's 205/40/17 is going to be a different size than the others. It's not exact measurements. What is your offset? Where is it rubbing? Outer fender, inner fender, bottoming out at the top? You added more weight to the front end without changing anything else (i.e. spring rate) so it's going to sit lower. A stiffer spring or one with less drop will correct that part of the situation. OR getting different wheels that are smaller and/or have the proper offset.

Actually, i already understand that 205/40/17 are wider. I was responding to the other guy who said not to use 17's. There are plenty of people running lower than I am with 205 series tires. Whether they're 205/40/17 or 205/50/16, the point is that plenty of people run it without rubbing. Every manufacturer's tire is going to be slightly different but not hugely different.
My offset, as stated before, is 40.
I believe it is rubbing on the sides. Thats why i was asking about rolling the fenders.
Anyone want to answer my last 2 questions? Do 99-00 fenders have more clearance and does anyone have any pics of their fenders after being rolled?

I helped a friend roll his fenders on his a4 to squeeze in some 19's. Just used a stock jack, a piece of metal pipe and a towel. It worked well. In your case, i think you would benefit more from stiffer spring rates though. With the added weight in the front, the stiffer rates will help your cornering a lot.

Odd, if you said your offset, I'm not seeing it anywhere. Regardless, only difference I've noticed on the fenders is simply the front (lights). There was no change is width that I've been able to see. Roll your fenders and see if it helps but it would be beneficial if you knew where it's rubbing. If it's hitting the frame side then there's no point. Grab a heat gun or hair dryer & wooden bat, jack the car up, slowly roll the bat back and forth working the metal up and out. Look inside the fender lip and you'll see what you're supposed to be rolling. it's the lip and all the tabs that are on the inside of the fender. It doesn't make a huge difference typically though so....
Also, depending on manufacturer, not all Integra springs are the same as Civic. many are higher rate and occasionally one set is shorter.
You'd also be surprised at the amount of variance that can sometimes be found in dimensions for tires.
You should really look into some different springs. Eibach Pro-kits will give you a similar drop and they're stiffer which will help if it's primarily on compression (what it sounds like).

Gee, looks like the front is different for the diff. headlights. Wow, imagine that. Now get off your *** and fix your damn car. Find out where it's rubbing and then swap springs, roll fenders, add negative camber, get diff. wheels, whatever. Your options have been covered so pick one and do it.

You also have to remember that the tein drops are for stock cars. You have dropped a b series motor in a car that came with the d16y8. The b series are like 70+lbs heavier. This would cause the front to sink more than what the tein says.

I don't worry about not coming across as an *** because I figure that there aren't a whole lot of sensitive *** people on here. Maybe it was a camera angle but I see a difference on those 2 fenders. fenders are three dimensional and have tabs on the back so you can't put them back to back to compare. The differences (other than the headlight area) is pretty much camera angle/ angle of the fenders in relation to one another. It takes a lot to offend me, you didn't. However, arguing with someone trying to help you is annoying. All of the things that I told you that you "knew" were never stated by yourself. I fail to see where you repeated yourself in response to my questions & statements unless you didn't read them and were just giving a canned response. I talked about offset which you never posted (even though you said you did). I explained the procedure for rolling your fenders as I've not been able to find any pics that didn't have a $300-500 roller in them. I explained the differences in the fenders to you. I explained to you that tire specs are not exact. I explained to you that more negative camber may help (depending on where it's rubbing). YOU argued with ME over every point, most of which make a huge difference. So, I'm curious, if you knew everything I posted, why did you post in the first place because that's all there is to know. For future reference, if you ask a question and you know the answer, you're going to get a lot of responses that you already know (although I think we both know that you didn't know everything I posted). You should also give all appropriate info next time (i.e. wheel diameter AND width, offset, tire size, tire brand/model, suspension setup, camber settings, etc.)
I gave everything except camber settings and offset in the first post. The offset was given on the 8th post in this thread.
The ONLY time i disagreed with you was about the fenders so don't act like i was picking some type of fight with you. It was more of the fact that you either kept rehashing info that was just given to me or you didnt catch a variable that i was trying to clear up. For instance, I mention that it's rubbing on the sides. You quote me on that, yet question me as though i havent said anything about it (your 2nd post on the thread).
As i said before, I'm not trying to start anything. Thanks for your attempt at helping me out.
