Default install turbo charger

i have a 1990 honda accord ex and i was wondering if i should get a turbo charger for it. i know you cant just by a turbo charger and just pop it in and be set. it must take alot of work to install one of them, and alot of extra parts right? i finally saw one and i thought they were bigger than that, kinda looks like a giant snail. have any of you guys installed one of those yourself? ease of install> 1-10?

you dont just buy a turbocharger by itself, bolt it on and expect it to work, thats like buying a tv without a screen and never plugging it in. a turbo charger is a system, look a little more into them before going out and bolting one up lol, turbochargers can get pretty big in size but most cars have a standard size like your talking about, they still make a big difference as far as hp goes

turbo systems are maybe a 3out of 10 to install. and i did my first with ZERO mechanical experience. just attack it with some basic handtools. you'll be fine. search like a bastard, the more you read the less you will worry when you are doing it.

if you buy this off of ebay, try and find one that comes with the entire setup, unless you can find every part that fits and its less money, but dealing with 1 company and getting everything is better then a couple coming through and then the one part you need never showing up, if your not buying off of ebay then you should get the whole kit no matter where you buy it, so you shouldnt have any trouble.

wow i thought it would take a tech expert to put them in, i saw one for $450 pretty cheap. but i head these old honda engines cant really handle a turbo too good without overheating or cracking at worst.

It depends on your motor. F series handle boost pretty well. The best thing I can tell you is do lots and lots of research and then piece your own kit together. Good luck.

Heres some links to get started:

Turbonetics is crap... Just because its a brand name doesn't mean they make good products.

Do your homework and piece together a kit. Yes it will take longer... Yes it will suck sitting and waiting... And yes, it will be better than any "complete kit" you can buy elsewhere while spending less money.

I pieced together a kit for about $1400. Worked GREAT.... till the rings and valve seals went. No fault of the setup, the motor was weak.

I'd give it more like a 6 or 7 of 10 myself, provided you're pulling the oil pan and welding the bung on as you should.

definitely not hard but if you don't understand how everything works you could have one hell of a time. read read read like Dave said and you should be ok.

however you're living on borrowed time with stock cast honda pistons IMO.

ok first of all dont be a tard and think i just said turbonetics because its a brand name, i know many people around here running turbonetics and they have never once failed on them in anyway, never had any problems with them, they ran great. Im telling him this from experience, but go ahead and tell me, why do you think their crap? what problems have you come across with turbonetics?

450? you sure it's not a e-turbo..lol

f series are know for handling boost because the low compression, stop saying any motor can't handle boost because you think they can't

SS chrome's turbo are known for bearing problem, they are just not well built, they will not honor the warranty, i know guys that have it for month and SS Chrome will not honor their warranty on it.
It sucks pretty bad to not stand behind your product.
their manifold is problematic also, if you get a good welded one, you are good, if you get the sh-tty made one, you'll have a exhaust leak.
it's not that much of a problem for performance part to fail under beating but is the bad service SS Chrome offers that sucks the most.

for a beginner, i will never suggest a peice together kit, 99 percent of them are not ready to install it let alone put the puzzle together.
Of course you can get your equal length mandrel bent manifold with your custom kit but how would someone new to boost know the difference?
internal wg, external??

Turboeing an f22 isn't all that complicated like you think it is. Take a look at this and decide for yourself....
