Default DC2 ABS difference between years? Size is different but are the wires the same?

I figure this would be the best place to post this since different year owners post here.

My question is this...I know that the 94-97? have the bigger abs unit. 98-up have the smaller unit. I think that the older unit also has a side entry for the hardlines. The newer unit has a top entry? I need to know if the wiring is the same, relays are the same, etc.

I'm going to be putting in the entire abs from my dc2 shell that I have into my eg...I'm going to be making new hardlines for it and I just found out that the newer unit is smaller, more compact...I have all the wiring for it from my 96 dc2...I'm just wondering if I would be able to use the newer one to clean it up. Thanks in advance

cool. thanks for the fast response...I just found out though that the older models have 3 channel system compared to the newer units having a 4 channel...is that controlled by the actual abs unit or is it electronically controlled by the computer?

No, it's not. I have both systems. The newer one is 4-channel vs. the older 3-channel, and it eliminates a lot of parts (high-pressure accumulator, etc.) so it should be a lot more reliable.

The main difference is that the control unit (computer box mounted next to the right rear passenger seat speaker) is very different. It's smaller, and the wiring is different. It's not too hard to splice the new connectors onto the older wiring, if you're upgrading an older car: the older system uses a few more wires than the new one.

The new system, I believe, also uses one less "fail safe" relay. It also connects to the lights in the dashboard a little differently.

Given a wiring schematic for both the old and new systems, it shouldn't be too hard to switch. I have the parts for the new system, but I haven't upgraded my older car yet because of lack of time. Of course, you also have to bend the hardlines differently.
