Default transmisson question

I am trying to buy a teg this week and it has shifting problems. When you try to put it in gear above 3500 4000 rpms it dosen't want to go but after it idles down a bit it will go. My question is could it be the slave cylinder or the syncros and wht would be your estimate on repair. Thanks for any help.

if it grinds going into gear its most likely syncros, unless the linkage is bent but thats unlikely. If you need a slave cylinder the clutch pedal most likely wont come up off the floor. Slave cylinder is a real cheap fix, syncros can get expensive, maybe $1000-1200 job (dealer prices), but thats a guess.

Yeah the clutch pedal comes up off the floor good. When I drove it I hit it in second and it grind when I put it in third. what would I look for if it was the slave cylinder.

It won't be any of your cylinders, by the symptoms you are describing. If they were failing, then you would be leaking fluid and the clutch wouldn't fully disengage, and sometimes the pedal would stay on the ground.

When you try to force it in gear, it grinds, right? Does it only do it in 3rd gear? I'm asking because Honda transmissions unfortunately suffer from an early 3rd gear synchros retirement.

Unless you can service it yourself, like the other poster said, it will/can quite expensive to repair.

Have you tried the easy stuff first, such as checking/replacing/flushing your transmission fluid? There are many aftermarket fluids that are very good and sometimes "repair" the grinds.

I think you are right . When i was driving it I gave it some gas in second and when I shift in to third it grind so I don't know about the other gears I will have to drive it again .

These are the specs on the car

95 Gsr ( I think teal green or some really faded green)
209,xxx mL
broken passenger head light
missing passenger side molding (quarter panel)
other little stuff missing on the inside of car nothing big

The body it self is in pretty good condition
as far as the motor its dirty as hell but it runs pretty good

He wants 2,800 for the car do you guys think its worth it

easiest way out, buy the car for a good price, sell that tranny and get yourself a new one! you can easily sell that one for $300 bucks with the grind or maybe even more and upgrade to better tranny...or you can try to fix it yourself which will be more headaches...drop that tranny out and drop in a new one...

I was already planning on buying a new motor for the carand trying to get it painted but if the tranny is bad that throws a big wrench in my plans because a gsr from hmotoronline is 700 .

But do you guys think the car is worth 2,800 with the mileage and maybe a bad tranny.

you can use the gm synchromesh as an alternative especially if your budget is tight. it can also buy u some time so you can rebuild or change the tranny. Ive been running gm synchromesh for about 4 months and my grinds magically disappeared after about 3 weeks.
