Get the devil off my shoulder!!
I drove an ITR over the weekend that FactorX had just finished rebuilding the motor on. Not sure of the internals, but hoary chit this thing rips!!!!!!
Motor was finished and installed on Sat. They let it idle for awhile and drove it around the block for a bit and then dyno'd it just for kicks. Here's what I do know about it:
B18c5
stock ecu
stock tranny w/ light flywheel
DC (us spec) header (temporary)
5 zigen cat back (temporary)
91 octane gas
cam gears set to zero (for now)
About two hours after the motor went in, it made 183whp right off the bat, but power was falling off after 7K rpms (not enough fuel? choking exhaust system?). It's supposed to get new ECU and then a dyno tuning session today.
I was given the green light to let her rip and now I got this evil little devil telling me to do the same to 234's engine. While rolling at ~10mph, I stepped on the gas and the tach goes screaming upwards while leaving a burn out mark about 20ft long. Shift to 2nd and the tyres again leave a 20~30ft mark
On the second start I short shifted to 2nd. As the tach went screaming up past 4K rpm, the tyres just lit up again
It's easy to dump the clutch from a stand still and do burnouts but I've never driven a FWD that lit up the tyres after a rolling start.
It was so disappointing to go back to my car and try the same thing...lets just say my car felt about as responsive as my land cruiser
Power wise (on the dyno) wasn't impressive yet, but now I totally understand what John at Hytech had been saying about importance of an engine's acceleration and not peak power.

did dat thing have nawwz?
spin while rolling is c00l
mebbe it had Motec exhaust...?
will
-who will keep 0154 stock for a while... b/c of cash (or lack there of)

Acceleration will be based on torque, and what john refers to is transient response
which doesnt have that great of an effect on acceleration as we see it.
BS, instead you should think power under the curve vs peak hp.

shi - who thinks he won't forget 'transient response' anymore
Here we go again....
Let's say transient response is like Turbo lag. You feel it when you shift (throttle up and down) and during standing start (when you can't step on the throttle fully).
This is what Yoshi experienced.... Just my 2 eurocents.

I experienced this when I drove a friends newly built LS/VTEC'ed GSR a few years ago. I had driven a Mitsu Eclipse GST before that so I knew a little bit about how end torque felt. When I got in my friends GSR and let her rip I immediately spun the wheels after shifting into second and third gear. This car felt way more powerful than my ITR.
Let's just say while I was driving I thought the GSR had turbo
I even had to look under the hood afterward to make sure he wasnt BS'ing me
An experience I will never forget!

wheelspin is like the poorest possible comparison point to make.
My car can spin 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th and chirp 5th.
I know of a STOCK LS that can do the same thing...... with NITTO tires.
Big deal.

Monarch Roadhugger tyres also make for great burnout tyres

Well you'll have to excuse me for that.... sgt!
Considering I wasn't dynoing it and I had no computer readout giving me a torque and hp curve.
All I had to go by was wheelspin and my previous experience in my ITR. I felt this was at least more powerful than my ITR!
Sheesh.....!

Funny ...
When I talked to sgT about boost for my R,
. .. his first question was "how much traction do you not want to have"?
Speaking of which.
Steve, check cleared ... time to order parts.
I mean to call C&R about a radiator later today. Ed

the car yoshi's talking about is my car i just recently converted from super charger back to all motor..
this is the story i have had my JRSC on my car for about 20k miles i have had a few issues with detonation and other things that i just hated, so i decided i had enough i drop my car off to the the boys a Factor x motorsports in fullerton CA (714) 526-3973 and tell them i want the blower removed and wanted to build up my itr motor.. they have diffrent motor packages to choose from i told them i wanted something for road racing and auto crossing they say no problem..
well a week later my car is finished. yoshi and i go out to see i being dynoed and let yoshi and i take a quick spin and lets just say"hory chit that thing rips" i revs just like a motorcycle i acually felt like i was driving a suped up civic. the power was so sweet. the boys at Factor x did such a sweet job no excusses did everthing in time it was finished when they said it would be done.. i would like to thank the boys there they visit once in a while to our h-t forum so thanks to mike, john, and ken for the awesome job they did on my car... if you guys wants something done
right then Factor x is your place full engine set ups and dyno tunning and trust me mike knows his chit about tunning ....

hey rob, yoshi,
isn't that the shop you guys mentioned that one night in torrance? factorx...
sounds like they did some *great* things for your car!

most of the engine is Factor x designed stuff they will not even tell me what's in it..
all that i can say is" hory chit " she moves the v-tec sounds so cool light accel feels like your hammering the gas ... oh one other thing im running on 91 octane also
no problems no detonation and lots of fun ask yoshi he cant even put words to really tell you guys how fun she is to drive.. ill let you guys know more as i find out
she will be at the tcra event at the end of the month also
