Default Cold Air Box?

Okay, I'm new here... so go easy on me. lol

So anyway, after to talking to one of my father's friends, he suggested that a Cold Air Box would make my 1995 Accord Coupe a bit more powerful. After looking up some things online, I noticed some of sites mentioned that if the car was operrated during wet conditions it could cause serious engine damage. The ones that I found that could be used during wet conditions, they didn't have for my car.

If anyone had anymore information or suggestions, I would appreciate it.

What you're talking about it a Cold Air Intake, this means that the filter is located in the fender of your car rather than within the engine bay allowing it to draw colder air in. A Cold Air Box is a different thing, that would be a box that isolates the filter within the engine bay deflecting the heat away from the filter.

About causing engine damage.....it's pretty much when the filter element gets immersed fully in water, such as a deep puddle. So if you drive in a city like Los Angeles, you could drive pretty much year around w/o trouble...but let's say in Seattle you'll definately be "playing with fire".

Never heard of the term "cold air box" when the filter stays within the engine compartment but "isolated" from the heat created under the hood. I have, however, heard of heat shields....those were used in VW's.

They do make a front mount cold air intake that looks like a turbo/supercharger intercooler, but that looks ghey (because it looks you've got forced induction but in reality you don't)

first thing first, it doesnt take a large amount of water to get your valve bent, ask me why, i live in LA also.
Hydrolock in other hand require a large amount of water, then you ask what's the different, hydrolock means your motor is totally seized. neither one is fun, hydrolock is just much harsher.

most of the people suck in water from their CAI which hang right in front of the front wheel well for most of the FWD honda.

There's a device called bypass valve by AEM which will totally eliminate the water damage/hydrolock problem. it's a good investment, hell it's 25-40buck insurance for your motor.

Heatshield are usefull but no one care enough to make a drop in version for the accord. but nothing cant be done with elbow grease.

cold air box is different from heatshield, look at ARC's icebox. No, it's not a box where you put ice to chill your incoming air, it's a cold air intake which a box like filter, it's a way to get around the hydrolock problem.
sounds perfect? too bad, again, they dont make one for usdm accord.
and it's not cheap.

front mount intake is the stupidest thing ever, everyone know half a thing about turbo will laugh at you for hours. It might be cool back in the days but...you got my point

True that. Although, how would I know that I'm buying the revamped versions as I have heard that the originals had been recalled....

I wouldn't think heatshields would be effective enough....waste of time.

Just how would the boxlike filter get around the hydrolock problem? Is it because the filter element is not in the wheelwell?

Yeah man, I definately feel the same way on that part. Total waste of time and money and it totally looks gay.

I've got CAI and in Seattle. Just gotta drive smartly when it's wet out. Today it was nice, dry, and cold! So perfect for driving hard. Yesterday it was none-stop rain almost and puddles were all over. Driver beware and be smart!

Sorry if I was picking on a city, it was the first rainy city that came to mind. Anyway I do agree with the "drive smartly" comment. And that just goes for EVERYTHING..
