Default question about tires and rims...

ok...selling my racing hart type c rims because its too wide for my car...the size is 17x7.5 and rubs like heck...the tires on them are 205/40ZR/17...now i got some racing hart c2 evo that i bought from someone which are 17x7 and has some 215/40/17 tires mounted on them...my first question is, whats the difference between the numbers 205 and 215?? are 215s wider or bigger?? will those make me rub still cause im lowered with a 2 finger gap all around...also, since my 205/40ZR/17 tires are mounted on my 7.5" wide type c rims, will it be less wide if i mount them on my c2s which are 7" wide?? thanks

ok i just read this about tire size http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...id=46 ...soo 205/215 is the width of the tires...soo if i put 205 tires on my 7.5 inch wide rims, will the width of the tires expand or will it be the same width as if i put it on 7 inch wide tires??

The width will be the same, because it's the width of the tread.

1/2 inch difference in wheel width.

Yes.

And there aren't a whole lot of smaller size tires in 17".

Depending on how and where they're rubbing, it's possible that the offset on your wheels is wrong, in which case you can use spacers to move them out, but you can't really move them in. Also, rolling your fenders might help. And you could try returning your ride height to stock. Otherwise, you'll need to get smaller wheels with smaller tires.

That's the smallest size you can get for 17" wheels, even though the outer diameter is still significantly bigger than stock. You can't just switch to a smaller tire size on those wheels.

You'll have to try some or all of the things I mentioned above, to see whether any of them eliminate your rubbing problems. Otherwise, you'll have to get smaller wheels with smaller tires.
