Default Any SolidWorks experts in here???

Hi,
I have been playing around with this program for a few days now. And have been trying to make a "tube elbow". Like an elbow that would be found in a cold air intake.

Whenever I try I usually end up with a funnel/velocity stack/ or some other weird shape with an open end.

Do I have to make a tube and bend it some how with the program, make 2 tubes and connect them some how, or is there a way I can program multiple pivot points for when I create the part in 3d.

Thanks.

SolidWorks is incredibly easy to use.
Here are some plans I made for my trucks rear windows. They will be replacing broken plastic pieces that are about .5" long. Nothing spectacular. But pretty good I guess for no training or experience.

I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you need, so check the pictures at the bottom of the post

SolidEdge v.17 directions (probably close, never used Works)

1. Sketch 1 line, the another at the preferred bent angle (I chose 90 for ease) at endpoint of line 1.

2. Use the fillet/radius tool to set the bend on the line to prefered radius. Finish, Finish.

3. New sketch, on "Plane normal to curve" at either end. Draw you tube profile [OD, ID]. Finish.

4. Swept Protrustion. Select your centerline, then your OD.

5. Swept Cutout. Select your centerline, then your ID. Viola.

open new drawing.
select front or right plane.
and open a sketch on it.
sketch an arc. with one of the circle or arc tools

close sketch.

select top plane
sketch a circle at the end point of the arc you made earlier.

close sketch.

select 'sweep boss/base'
select the first box in the left, then click on the circle
then click on the 2nd box and click on the arc
it should show a preview of what it would be.
then click on thin feature on the left and select the thickness.

hope that helps.

Or you could just make a single sketch with a circle and a centerline at the radius you are going for, and do a revolve. KISS.

True, but if you want to do something more like this:

then a swept feature makes more sense.

Dan

Edit: I'm not sure what version you've got, but the tutorials are actually really good for this kind of thing in 2004/2005 (not sure about other releases). They go through feature creation step by step.

Thanks that did the trick.

It took me a few minutes to figure out what I was doing wrong. I kept tring to use the "revolved boss/base feature" when I should have been using the "Swept boss/base' like you mentioned.
