Default CTR Pistons

I've just picked up a set of brand new oem CTR pistons for my 97 ITR.
In order to have a successful, reliable transfer into my motor, what else would I require? Do I need different connecting rods? Can I leave the head stock, or will that have to be upgraded. From what I understand some slight honing will have to be done.

If anyone who has done this can give me some tips it would be appreciated.

Thank you

If the motor is in good shape and all bearing clearences are ok, you can get away with honing the cylinders slightly and have the pistons pressed onto the stock rods and use new rings and put it all back together (new head gasket needed too).

Be aware though, the static compression with CTR pistons in a otherwise stock b18c5 (using stock 3 layer head gasket) will be around 12.5:1 compression. You MUST run 93 octane and use stock timing. You also should tune the car. I put CTR pistons in my stock ITR motor and it runs fine once tunned even in the summer heat with the A/C running.

Thanks for your reply,

With the piston swap what power figures should I expect?
I always run 94 octane regardless if the motor is stock or it is not.

I wouldn't expect huge gains versus a good condition stock motor. In fact you may find that you get more from the stock motor because you can run more timing and not be worried about detonation. It all depends, but in my setup I was able to run higher then stock timing without any problems on 93 octane and once tuned the car seemed a bit more responsive then a stock itr motor.

Thanks again for your reply.

You wouldn't mind giving me the specs on your motor, including which intake and exhaust that your running. Right now my ITR is completely stock, and I'm trying to build my ride and would like to find out what works and what doesn't, pretty much best bangs for the buck. If the CTR pistons aren't worth the hassle putting in, I can sell them to my buddy

I dont know what stare you are in but I ran CTR pistons in my old B18C5 and even got it tuned via the Hondata on a dyno but the motor would have a lot of detonation on 91 octane and Los Angeles heat.

Get a J&S knock sensor.....I ran ctr pistons in my 98 ITR motor with the head milled 20k , always ran it on 91 because that is all we have here in Cali, no problems with detonation whatsoever.

Wow I haven't had any detonation issues even in the summer, granted it only gets to around 95-100 in NY, but with 93 octane and even a little advanced timing the car has been fine

On the other hand, I am now TRYING to run Skunk2 pro1's in my itr motor with the ctr pistons, and I can tell you its a BITCH to tune the car. One or two places it would ping with stock timing
