weird gas meter reading
I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem and if there is a simple way or anyway to fix it. When i'm driving and hit the brakes to slow down to a stop the needle would move downward towards empty. When I'm makeing a turn left the needle would move up and then as i drive straight it would move back to where it's suppose to be. And when i turn right the needle would point downward to empty and after driving straight for a lil bit it would move back to the right position. I don't know if this is a problem for anyone but the inaccurate reading of gas for my car kills my gas money. So any help would be much appreciated. Thx
Perfectly normal, it's just most people have their eyes ether on the road (at least while turning), dialing their cell phone or putting on their makeup (concession to the ladies among us) to notice this going on.
It has to do with centrifical force, gravity and the design of the tank.

The gas needle moving around is not making you burn more gas however, something else is to blame for that. Is the engine running ok? Did you check the mileage?
its the force inside of the tank of you breaking, it is perfectly normal, you dont burn anymore gas than your supposed to and there is nothing wrong with your vehicle to cause this, the only time you will see how much gas is really in your tank because of this is when your at 60mph or the car has been stopped long enough for it to balance back out
Inside the fuel tank is a series of baffles who's sole purpose is to control gas slosh within the tank. They go completely from bottom to top, just as the bulkheads in the Titanic SHOULD have. Unlike the Titanics' bulkheads (however) these tank baffles allow gas to pass between them thru small reliefs provided on the bottom. This allows controlled flow between compartments, thus all compartments achieve the same fluid level.
The tank sending unit /pump assembly sits in the middle compartment, designed to allow a continuous supply of gas.
Because of this continuous movement of gas from one side or another, the level of fuel the senser sees can vary several inches at any one moment. That's where you get your needle dance.

i kinda like it, expecially when the gas prices were on the high rise i always enjoyed going from 0-60 at a stoplight because it seemed like i was filling my tank up again

Try driving backwards. My Honda sucks the exhaust back up the tailpipe and converts it back to '87 octain. Now if I could only figure out the odometer thingy.

get to that cable that the odometer and speedometer share inside their housing, and then get a electric drill, put it in reverse, you need to get the gears in the odometer to spin backwards
.
there are some vehicles that come with internal devices to tell that the odometer has been tampered with, worth a shot though

yo amigo ..first off there is hardly and cable operated speedo/odometer anymore and secondly even on the older cars you could not just put a reverse drill and turn it backwards
,,trust me ,,if u want to dick around to roll back mileage u got to totally remove the odometer from the cluster,, and,,,,, well ,etc, etc,, legally i cannot go any further

Much to my surprise, I thought he'd at LEAST call me on my driving backwards crack.

i didnt even comment, lol did you think i believed it or something? im just messin with the odometer thing man, i dont know how to turn them back nor do i want to, youd have to set your car back atleast 10k miles to get the price to go up, and unless you find a complete idiot to buy it, youll get caught
I truely don't know. My first wife believed it (for all of about 10 minutes). It was like a light bulb turned on somewhere, and the verbal abuse started. It was great fun.
