Default new oilpump failed at the dragstrip...

F22a engine
I was making a pass at the dragstrip at 20 psi afrs in the low 11's on C16, topend of 4th gear i'm doing 120mph at 7200rpm and the oil light came on and my oil pressure guage went to 0. I braked shut it down and coasted...
I just changed the oil yesterday with 6qts of mobil 1 10w30

Visually inspection, no oil leaks all is normal...
I started it for a second
no oil pressure.

When i take it apart i know i'm going to see a broken oilpump
is there gonna be schrapnel in my oil system or do they stay in the pump area?

i think the motor/turbo is ok...

This oilpump is only 6k miles old OEM honda
I was using an alum crank pulley.
i'm thinking it did it...

btw i checked #'s and the F22a/b, H23, H22a use the same oilpump gears...
so i ordered a prodrive h22a oilpump.
Hopefully the old housing is ok...

I did one pass before this one on 20psi with 10.0:1 AFR's was not making full power obviously...
I spun my slicks 1st-3rd due to a very cold track and a bad burnout.
4the gear pulled very hard...
2.3 60ft...lol
with all the tirespin i still ran a 12.7 at 117mph lol

the pass i broke on felt like an 11 second pass

btw, i'm putting an OEM crank pulley on for now...

i'm going to put the oem one on for now..
but i'm interested in the Fluidampner for the H22. It will fit the F22a, but i'm thinking the balance would not be right for this motor???
Is it possible to rebalance it for the H23/F22a crankshaft?

Why does an alum crank pulley cause oil pump failure?

ATI makes a great dampner also. They work great and are SFI approved also. The difference is ATI will make you a custom dampner for your engine. It will save your pump. BTW, clean your engine very thoroughly.

interesting...
do i need to give them a crank though to proper balance the balancer?
I'm going to pull the oil passage plugs out on the back of the block and obviously take off the oilpan... I want every single piece of metal accounted for.

jesus, 6 quarts? Is that how many that motor takes? I know that wouldn't help the situation.

I like the Fluiddampner over the ATI, because its has a rubber dampener thats tuned for a certian frequency, and has the fluid, which covers basicly any other frequency the engine can throw at it.

Moroso holds 5.5 to my knowledge.
