Default my first motor swap...

hey guys. this is my first motor swap. my friend is going to help me with wiring, installation, any labor, etc. i have an 89 civic hatch STD. i just bought a D16Z6 for $300, it came with the motor and trans. the motor is complete, minus the wiring and ecu. am i able to use my STD trans on the Z6? or is there a hydro to cable conversion? im doing a lot of research before i touch the car and just wanted to know what i need for this swap. thanks in advance.

I'm doing the same swap, d16z6 into a 1990 STD hatch.

I'm using a tranny from a 91 Si. Don't worry about dealing with the hydro to cable conversion for the tranny, just pick up a cable Si tranny and be done with it.

Are you converting to OBD1? I am using a p28, with a JDM **** OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness.

I did all of the wiring last weekend for the switch from dpfi to mpfi and from OBD0 to OBD1, it really isn't that hard, just do a lot of research and follow the instructions that others have been so kind to post for you.

do i use the clutch for the 91 si? or i do use the z6 clutch? so it isnt worth it to buy the rywire conversion kit? i would much rather do it myself to save a lot money. thanks

Either clutch will work, the both have the same number of splines. I am using my ACT clutch from my last d16z6 turbo.

I'm sure the Rywire conversion kit is worth it if you want to go that route. I have plenty of time to research and I would rather do the wiring myself anyways. I did buy an OBD0 to OBD1 conversion harness though. I didn't feel like doing that part myself.

Use the z6 mounts..But use your stock driver side mount..And you'll have to mod it a little so it doenst hit the timing belt..If you get a dx or si tranny I think you have to buy new axles and you also have to use dx or si hubs..

Don't use any of the stock z6 mounts.

Use all of the mounts from the EF. Three bolt to the tranny and the driver's side mount bolts right up, you just need to modify the upper timing belt cover a bit.

I'm almost certain that all d-series axles are interchangable. Meaning, you can use either the axles in the car, or the d16z6 axles, both should work.

ok, motor swap is going to have to wait. at 9 30 tonight some little 40+ year old mexican lady ran in to the side of my car. im going to need a new door, fender, possibly a hood, front bumper and the little piece above the bumper. this sucks, my car was one of the cleanest hatches in my area...

since ur car is down y not do the swap at the same time...i used pgmfi.org for my swap..cut 'n' sodder the wiring from OBD0 to OBD1..check for "dpfi to mpfi" for ur injectors...use the EF mounts and make sure u change the L mount that bolts on the engine on the timing side from the z6 to the EF one...at this time u may want to change ur timing belt, water pump, crank seal, and tensioner bearing..use ur stock engine wiring and add 6 wires for ur vtec and o2 sensor..a 4-wire o2 sensor must be used..and u'll have to lengthen the MAP sensor wires...there's a temp guage sensor on the back of ur stock motor, take that out and put it the z6 in the same spot(a bolt will need to be remove) that way u don't wave to re-wire it for the z6 sensor....and finally,if u want to, get some motor mount inserts..for all 4 mounts..don't do what i did..finished swap then got some inserts and had to mess with the mounts again.
