I must agree that the transmission is pretty insane. I'd take the GTI over the CTR.

I wouldn't say it was "related" ... it was essentially a VW advertisement!

but each clutch swap must be expensive as hell

I am also interested to see how reliable that trani proves to be in the long run. I am not saying that I expect there to be common failures. It an amazing piece of engineering, and I hope it to be just as amazing in reliability.

That being said, I would still take a CTR over a GTI for track use. That was obviously a paid for ad on the show, especially since there was a HUGE GTI banner at the end.

 

Even this tranny stumped Tsuchiya since Hattori
out race him from his manual 6 speed in last Best Motoring Video.

 

That tranny is incredible. The looks though fo the new GTI I jsut can't seem to get warmed up to. I would still take the CTR, little bias because it's a honda, but jsut the looks of the GTI would keep me away.
