does brand or model year matter with fuel filters?
have a 98 4cyl accord. 2.3l. want to replace fuel filter now at 220k. went to local parts store to price against dealer filter. local parts store doesn't carry the 98 filter but does carry the 97. i looked at the filter and looks the same. does year or brand of filter matter really? seemed like the exact filter so why wouldn't they have to 98 as same part number? is it because they filter is internally diff when no as such with the body?
anyone?
thanks in advance.

Sometimes yes sometimes no. In this case I don't know. Surefire way would be to call your local dealer and ask the parts department, even if you don't buy from them you can know for sure.
I don't have a parts catalog in front of me so I couldn't say for sure.

I'd stick with National Brands. IE: Fram, Purolator Allied etc. Although the differences in their micron ratings are negligible, some store brands use a lighter case material which can cause problems from time to time.

They are NOT the same. The '97 unit is external, the '98 unit appears internal to the tank....

How much was the dealer fuel filter?
And 220,000 miles in less than 8 years? How's your car holding up? I've got a '99 LX I4 myself (76,000 miles), just wondering how the 6th generation does at high mileage.
