Default How much money have you sunk into your all-motor build?

I am going to do an allmotor build either this winter or next winter. I will definitely have King Motorsports do all the work for me since i have never rebuilt a cars engine before, only lawnmower--hahaha ya i know it sad.

Im thinking of spending no more than 7000 for everything including labor, machining, all parts, and dyno tuning. I also have to buy everything including intake, header, exhaust, im...etc. Do you think it can be done? Hoping for 200 whp.

I am just wondering what everyone has spent on it include the boltons ie-exhaust, im, header, tb etc.

do you already have a motor? if you do, 200 whp will be easy with your budget.
if you don't have a motor already, i think its still very possibly for 200 whp

It's possible, yea. Depends how crazy you're gonna go. What kind of header, whether you want a port & polish, how much your tuner charges...

My header & exhaust alone cost me 2k. That leaves 5k for the motor if you go my route. If you have your head re-worked by portflow with new guides, you're looking at close to 2k with new everything on it, which leaves 3k. Earl will build your block for 3k... but now you need cams, a head gasket, injectors, tuning...

Do what I did, make a spreadsheet and put everything you THINK you're gonna need... that'll give you a ballpark figure. It'll help you decide where you want to skimp, and where you think extra money is worth it.

Hell, I had less than that in my last set and that included the price of the motor and the car. It wasn't 200 hp, but that was a shortblock and some cams away.

*confused*. . .only the shortblock and cams?

I could spend 3000-4000 grand on a built shortblock and cams. . .

At the height of that setup it was making 188 whp with a B16 shortblock. I had a GSR shortblock with JDM ITR pistons that I bought for $700 and I needed to move up to Buddy Club 4's. Total price of the setup including the shortblock ended up being around $6800 (excluding the suspension on the car because I had that laying around from the car before it). With the cams it shouldn't have broken $7500. Either way I sold the car before I got around to it.
