Hey guys. I bought my CRX several months ago, and haven't had an issues from it until now. I noticed the inspection was due and went to check all the lights. Well, I had no reverse lights. I checked the bulbs and they were good. I went to the switch at the tranny and the wires were disconnected. Well, I reconnected them and the lights worked. Heres the kicker though, when the engine is running, and I put the car in reverse, the engine dies within a few seconds, sort of like the gas or spark gets cut off. Any thoughts or ideas on this? FYI, it is a 90 Hf with B16 swap. I inherited someone else's problems.......

 

i have the same problem with my b16 in an 88hf, i just leave them unplugged. when u hear the smash u've backed up far enough. in all seriousness though i havent had the time to look into it. probably just need a new reverse switch. let me know if u find anything

The HF's have a wire that tells the ECU when it's in reverse, so that might have something to do with it.

 

Ok, there's a little more to add. I also just noticed that instead of my fuel pump priming for a couple seconds, it primes constantly. As soon as it is put in reverse, I here the main relay click and it stops priming. There HAS to be a wire crossed somewhere. Sheesh, and my inspection was due at the end of last month. Any wiring gurus out there?

just run a new wire back to the reverse lights (+) and wire it up to a relay in the engine compartment, and hook up one side of the switch on the trans to the relay(-) and the other side of the switch ground, the other (+) on relay hook to a switched power source(so lights only work when car is on) and the other (+) on relay goes to constant power(battery), sheesh- dont you know basic wiring?

 

No, I don't know basic wiring or the terminals on a relay. I was sorta hoping this might have happened to someone else before who could offer some input, before jumping into something as extreme as totally rewiring the reverse lights. I will save this as a last resort. Thanks for the advice.

 

extreme? this will take 15 minutes max, seems easier to me that figureing out the wiring problem.

I guess the biggest question would be is; do the reverse lights actually go through the ecu or is it directly wired? Off to do some research....

 

After looking at some pinouts, it doesnt seem that they go through the ecu. I guess I will attempt rewiring. CRX Jimmy, you wouldn't want to throw together a diagram for what you were describing, would you?

 

ill see if i can find a diagram, maybe search fog light wiring its exactly the same except no switch, ill see if i can get you the #'s for a relay and where they go
