ultimate set up for boosted d16z6????
after a lot of delibaration and research i have decided to build my own turbo set up,with the ultimate aim of achieving 300bhp.I realise this isnt a lot to some of you guys but i believe that here in the uk it will be one of the more powerfull d series.
and so the question, what setup would you go for to achieve this aim???
will be looking to build this set up with a budget running upto £2500/$5000
i am having a bottom end built by earl laskey shortly, consisting of:
Benson Sleeves install/cylinder hone
Benson balanced/micropolished crank
CP Pistons and rings
Pauter Rods
ACL bearings
OEM oil pump
Gasket/seal set
Blue print and assembly
my head is already fully built, with larger bore throttle body,skunk2 intake mani
the only other question i have is this,as you may of seen in my vb i am running a piggyback ecu in the form of a dastek unichip....
i will be honest i have had a few problems with this and it has cost me a small fortune to get set up.would this be sufficient to run a turbo setup or would you go for a stand alone unit eg aem, apexi.
look forward to your responses......paul
dont get ACL bearings
get Honda OEM bearings
i have had failure of mains because of ACL bearings even at the right clearances
i have talked to Larry from endyne and now on my new engine i am going Honda OEM bearings all the way
he has used them for years on D motors with over 400+ hp and never had a problem
BTW i am going to be making a write up on how to improve on D series motors oiling system, wich is the main cause of the engine failures

For only 300bhp I would get eagle as opposed to pauter rods. They're cheaper and they're good for over 300bhp.
Someone in the sponsors section is selling eagle rods/arias pistons w/ rings for $700 US.
edit: I would reccomend getting ARP headstuds while you're at it.
