remote start in an S2000 anyone??
has anyone dealt with a remote start install in an S2000? im seeking professionals only, not little kids yappin causin drama. I installed a Clifford Matrix 3.5 everything was wired up correctly and i even separated the starter button in half to wire up the start kill /start up wire from the alarm and i did a test run remote start, (where i put the key with the immobilizer chip inside of the ignition cylinder but in the off position - only because i didnt install the immobilizer bypass to the alarm just yet-) and when the key is in the off position it doesnt crank the starter at all. I wired up the 1 & 2 ignitions, the accessory, the 12v source, bypassed the clutch, cut the start wire from the starter button in half, one form the key side/ one to the starter side. but when i turn the key in the 2nd position it cranks and starts the car just fine. Is there another wire to power up/turn on the start button cicruit that will kick on the electronics for the starter solenoid from the button when remote starting? anyone have any input hit me up. I also noticed that there is an orange wire that when i apply 12v to it it remote start well. I want to know would there be an issue if i jump a wire to connect 12V to it when remote start is engaged. thanks for any info
Be careful -- not only because of the obvious (leaving the car in gear), but there are some at s2ki that have had their cars roll due to some malfunction in the e-brake. It has happened to enough people that it's something you need to be careful of. One guy's S rolled right down his driveway and onto the street. His parking brake was up, but the car was not in gear. Now, I'm always conscious of leaving the car in gear everytime I park.
hmm...I have a viper alarm w/remote start...my buddy that works at a stereo shop installed it for me (b-day present)...He followed all the wiring diagrams from the directed site. Only thing different is he did use the immobilizer by pass (the one with using a key for the magnet). Since then i switched to the new model which doesn't leave the key in the car...but it started up fine. I would say that you should try the immobilizer by-pass first. Seems like you know what your doing. Good luck.
ps-I have a perfectly fine working e-brake and have remote started my car over a hundred times w/o any problems...i never leave my car in gear! i dont see how starting a car when not in gear would cause it to move...haha. seems like someone needs to get their e-brakes adjusted...or fess up about leaving their car in gear when remote starting it

I'm not sure, but I think there is a TSB on it.

My post had nothing to do with remote starting.
It's just an e-brake issue.

then why post about it in a remote start thread?

<FONT COLOR="blue">Remote start is dangerous **** .. Its not only illegal to install remote start with a clutch but it can cause great damage to your car and others.
Example: you install this alarm system.. (remote start) and someone in the vicinity has a similar remote or the same freq. on a different system. You don't nessesarily have to leave it in gear for it to take off on you. I've seen the after math of a 99 prelude running into a building and several cars after someones remote started the wrong car.
Vibration from the car has been known to be enough to throw cars in gear. I don't have an s2000, so im not really sure how much tollerance the s2000 tranny has.
Its is your car so do whatever you want. Just be careful. When parked use the parking brake!!!
Good luck with the install.</FONT>

With all the different kinds of cars I've driven, I've yet to see that happen. I've never even heard of that happening. I simply can't imagine vibrations caused by a starting engine to move the shift lever into gear.
I can see this happening though:
*someone leaves the car in gear on accident. owner uses remote start to start car. car starts rolling* Guy blames vibration b/c there's "no way" he would have left it in gear.
BTW, I myself have remote start, and so do plenty of other people I know, and none of us have had any problems with that.

haha ok this has gotten out of hand with people talkin about remote start damaging a car and gears getting thrown into position cuz vibrations haha well anyway yes the blue/white wire thats coming form ur starter button is what u separated in half and used for the remote start portion of the starter so i cut in half and what i noticed is that if you look t your ignition harness theres an orange wire that runs in between your igniton, ignition 2 accessory, your thick 12V wire, and then the orange wire. does that orange wire turn on the circuit for the switch portion of the push button car to engage the starter? im thinking of jumping a 12V to that wire to turn it on because when i probe it and put 12V direct to it and have the key next to the ingition cylinder the car starts up. i know it works, but i want to know if anyone knows exactly what that orange wire in your ignition harness is for. thanks.. <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by philadd »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!! Please tell me more.....
Maybe he was on a hill, and the remote start jerked it around, and it rolled down the hill and took off on him, Johnny Tran style.
