my honest opinion would be to keep looking for a car in better shape. When you're dealing with a car with that much rust on it, its never a good deal no matter what you get the car for. Add in the high milage, rugged interior and you've got yourself a money pit parts car. If you were really a die hard fan of getting this specific car back in good shape and don't intend on doing the body work yourself, it is going to be difficult to find someone to replace the panels because most body shops don't want to be consumed in a project with a car that old and they definately don't want to bother with rust, many 88-95 civics have died as a cause of the rust factor. Look for a car less beat and you will be happier about it in the future, otherwise you can never build that car, you will always be fixing it. Just my 2 cents.
bump more opinions please
getting the rust fixed up was one of the first things i was gonna do. gonna get the rust cut out and get some new metal in there..

crxs arent rare enough for you to buy this car..its more trouble than its worth. Itll take some searching but you will be able to find something with much much less rust and in nicer shape for your budget im sure

its not worth much. i bought a 88 dx for $150. the motor was shot, and the car had some rust on 1 of the doors and behind both rear wheels. both fenders were also killed. but i already had another crx to swap parts with so the car really was worth that much to me. if you are just starting out though i think i would hold up for another one.
any more opinions, im actually having second thoughts now.
howmuch do you guys think the car is worth anyways?
if it helps i plan to do all the work with some friends.

its value to you sort of depends on what youre willing to invest (both time and money wise) AND most importantly, what you intend to do with it.
obvoiusly, something that is in good shape is just less trouble to work on. but, to use myself as an example; ive started a build up on a 91si that fits the discription of the one youre looking at with the exception that it has 220K+ on the motor and it runs perfectly. its slated for rally sprints, rally cross, etc so most of what people covet in a good vehical gets cut off and thrown away - plus, after a few stages over potato size gravel it will not look so april fresh on the outside. i could have started with something nicer, but i would have spent way more upfront and gutted a nice one that would have been better off as a street car - show thingy - er whatever.
also, coming from the rust belt, its easy to write it off as a whatever type issue cause we see it all the time, but on any unibody car its not a good thing. if youre not into body and sheet metal work, id avoid it . bondo is not the answer.

yeah i have a friend whos a welder so he would be helping me out a lot for cheap. that practiaclly clears out the rust unless theres more i havent seen yet. i wanna get the car since i would be learning a lot more about cars if i do so that would help me out but i dont know howmuch i should pay for it. i would be looking for a parts car too. but if i didnt find one, like goCRXgo said, i would be looking all over the place for some new interior pieces. thanks for all the replies and opions already.
