Default hf tranny more boost vs. zc tranny less boost

Topic says it basically. Here's my setup, ZC SOHC and I'm gonna be running a t3 super 60 turbo on built bottom end and head good for 9k rpms. My goal is I want to be well into the 12's if not high 11's. So my question is, should I go with the really long hf tranny and use more boost or use my extremely short zc tranny and use less boost /gear based boost control? Thanks for the input.

The HF trans is junk for anything performance oriented and yor assumption of more boost with a longer geared trans is incorrect, get an LSD ZC trans or a hybrid trans with an aftermarket LSD

Well, I talked to the guys at effinmotorworks.com and I'm probably gonna have them set up custom gears for me along with carbon synchros and lsd. Cuz there is no way I'm gonna be using my zc the way it is. Hittin redline (7k) at only 115 mph isn't gonna fly... Thanks for all the imput guys! Appreciate it!

Longer gearing is only good if you can make low end power..

The reason people say that long trannies are good when you have more power is based more on old ways - mainly v8's. Slushboxes back then could be modified to shift lightning-fast (my th350 3spd in my '67 chirps 3rd with only a stage1 B&M), and based on how my mom's '67 vette's cable tranny is a bitch - easier to use. There's also the fact that more torque meant more displacement - which usually ment lower redline (with all things being equal).

The fact is that in the quarter mile, its best to have your car almost redlining in 4th at the 1320 mark. The ZC and SI tranny would be nearing 110 with small tires in the top of 4th, IIRC.

Try this with your numbers, see what you get.

Some DOHC ZC engines (and only this engine, not sure which years) had an optional LSD. i remember that.

Out of the two choices, ZC and low boost or HF and high boost, I say Zc and low boost.

But why not get the ZC tranny with high boost?

So I have another question. What transmission do I have??? because I rip through the gears extremely quick and in 5th gear I'm already at 7k at only 115 mph. And that tranny calc. says that in 5th gear at 7k I should be at like 140 mph with a zc tranny. So, I'm confused... (not suprising I know)

I don't think it's a hybrid because I got it from Hmotors and usually the zc/si hybrids have higher top speeds not lower. My tires are 205/50/15's btw. I heard of a possibilty that there is a rare zc with si gears and a 4.44 final drive. That's the only thing that would really make sense at this point. Anybody else got any useful info??

Thats pretty odd. Obviously its not the Hf tranmission, that thing can go to 170. (its exageration of how high its geared).

I wish I could prove it to you man, I really do. I remember reading it on a site somewhere, but that was so long ago that there is no way I can get back to it. I don't even know if that site was 100% accurate. I do remember reading it though. You can contact hmotors to see if they have ever had an oem LSD equipped dohc zc transmissions.

ZC w/LSD does exist, I had one that I recently sold to a member on this board.

Are there any numbers or stamps on the transmission. Something like L3xxxx?
