Default Offsets, extended studs, and big tires

So I'm finally getting some big sticky tires, now the question is, do I need extended studs in the back? I have 43mm offset Kosei K1's, and I plan on using 5mm spacers in the back. Is there enough thread engagement? OPM says I don't need extended studs for this, but I was hoping for some feedback from other folks.

Thanks,
Warren

My friend has 1/4" wheel spacers for the rear, and he has to get longer wheel studs to use stock GSR rims, im not sure if hte K1 center is thinner or not, i doubt it is, most likely the same.

Besides, needing longer studs gives joo an excuse to use those nifty ARP studs

Uhh! Hey Warren, what are you trying to accomplish by placing spacers behind the rear wheels?
I'm not telling you not to, but, if I put spacers in the rear only this would mean I had a problem with keeping the rear of the car inline(oversteer). Is this your problem?

Roger (and all) - I think (Warren, correct me if I'm wrong) the issue is getting the tires to stop rubbing on the rear trailing arm. I run Enkei RF-1s (15x7, 38mm or so offset) and get some rub under cornering loads. While the rubbing looks pretty benign (it seems to polish the tire, nothing more), I'd rather drive without it.

Is this clearance problem isolated to the 94-01 Integras? Roger, do (did) you not have this problem with the Civic?

Yes, i did have polished trailing arms! I'd rather sacrafice a little paint on the trailing arm than have to go too wide on the front. I ended up using 10mm spacers on the front behind my 15x7 et39 Advan Racing RG's. This would equate to an actual 29mm offset on the front and I still could not get the car to turn! hahaha No spacers behind the rear wheels and a 225/50ZR15 Toyo T-1S with a ton of sidewall deflection creates a very high lustre polish on them trailing arms!

I have the same wheel and rain tire setup on my 2000 DX hatch on the street and the trailing arms are just starting to show signs of rubbing. No, that's the fender its rubbing! hahaha
Kind of like cards in the spokes of my bicycle.

Hmm, well I'll go get the big sticky tires and then I'll make up my mind on the studs/spacers. I'm guessing that at the minimum, I'm going to need the spacers, because I'm only running 43mm offset wheels.

Damn, I really wish I got 38mm K1's to start with. Grrr.

I've wanted to get the SSR comps for my ITR w/ 225-50-15 032R's.

The wheel's got an offset of 43, but it's 7 1/2 inches wide (15 inch).
Which type of "rubbing" do any of you guys forsee, and which spacers would be necessary?

Thanks, ... Ed

Remember the extra width in the rear track versus a civic.

Yack -who has already cut the fenders to fit the 5 lugs.....

It's really borderline. With the regular studs and H&R 5mm spacers I got 4 1/2 turns. The rule of thumb is 5. So I put on the extended studs. However I have had lots of problems with them. They are just an RPH smaller at the spline end then the OEM studs so they keep "falling" into the hub when you place the wheel back on.

Regards,
Alan

Warren,

I think you and I have talked about this, however, for everyones benefit. I have the K1 38mm 15X7 with 225 50 15 RA1 rubber and no rubbing on the controll arm. However, I had to seriously roll the fenders (hell not a problem for Warren and I - we rolled the whole damn car). I ran stock wheels with 225 rubber (bad plan) with 5 mm spacers, and they did not hit the controll arm either.

BTW - When Chris S. ran my steel rims with 225 AVSi rubber at VIR with 5 mm spacers. We not only polished the arm, we balled up about two golf ***** worth of tire rubber on them. The sidewall of the tires look shaved!

I spoke to someone at tire rack (again) last night about the 15 X 7.5 SSR's with 225/50/15's, and he says they should fit fine as is (only centering rings), without any spacers required. That shaving the sidewall thing is what I'd be most afraid of.

haha ... rolled the whole car! LOL Ed
