Default Stock Bottom B18C1 All Motor Build

so here's the plan. i dont intend on building the bottom end yet. so i wanna see what i get out of this setup for now.

m22x cams, rm valvetrain, blox im, hondata im gasket, anr header or wuteva else comes around cheaper that will perform good.

now with all that in mind. do you guys think it'll be worth the build and will it put out some decent numbers? the motor has about 102k on it right now and isn't in a car. i wanna get this swap done by 2006.. but don't wanna just swap it in stock.

any input will be nice. just need a little more motivation before i start ordering parts

edit: also, the goal with the build right now is just to hit low 14's or break into 13's with the motor in a RS trim DA

you want to change pistons, believe me if motor is out and you do not do this, you'll regret it later.
M22 is probably way too much cam for this, you'll loose all kinds of mid range.

Simple solution: stock bore JDM r pistons, just put them in, if motor is in a good shape it will work fine, if motor is in bad shape you'll find out as you are replacing pistons. Once back together, skunk pro1 cams will give you nice power band.
Tune with crome/hondata and you'll have ~190whp easy with some average I/H/E.
As far as anr header goes, they are junk, I have one for cool $900 stainless steel that is in pieces after 3 months cracked everywhere. Running flex pipe, brace, stiffer bushings, spring loaded (proper) gasket joint. They are like resonant pipes, it is not ANRs craftsmaship as much as it is design itself, it just LOVES to resonate, and once resonance hits the sweet spot that whole mess of pipes goes to crap (nothing like $900 lesson).

Live and learn

aight.. lets say i swap in jdm r pistons. what kind of work will i need a machine shop to do to the block to make sure it's ok to run.

what kinda whp difference would he gain by going with ITR pistons over keepin the stock bottom end? For comparisons's sake, let's just say he uses a stage 1 type cam.

< ------wondering cuz i skimped on doin the bottom end while the motor was apart.

example:
b18c1 IHE, BC3+ cams tuned 162whp/121tq
same engine with JDM type R pistons re-tuned 181whp/130tq, and this can go higher now with different cams since compression is there to support it.

Machine shop does not need to do anything here, maybe replace your pistons if you are not comfortable with torch and fire.

I have replaced pistons in 120K b18c1 engine, just put new rings and it is at 180K right now, almost not using any oil. I also had couple of engines bored and honed for bigger pistons, and they both use more oil than the first one (again this is simplistic view but gives you an idea, you do not always get what you pay for).

Working on engine blocks is a very exact effort and a lot of machine shops eye ball things, so chances are you'll be worst off than when you started.

If you need to use machine shop, I'd say leave that engine alone, and since you are "jdmkrazie" get yourself JDM r tranny with 4.7FD you'll feel good and motor will be good for some time

perfect example of an answer i was looking for now are those actual numbers from a specific motor build? or did you just make those numbers up, because I actually have bc3+'s

jdmkrazie, I don't mean to jack your thread, just hopin that with my question would help you make a decision to build your bottom end or not.

IMO tho, m22x is overcamming for the stock compression of the gsr.

i mean i'm comfortable with the install and everything. just wasn't sure if i had to worry about getting the block hot tanked or anything like that. and being that it's going in a 2nd gen the "JDM" r tranny is out of the question. also, the sn isn't how it looks..... so don't go quoting it.

i'd also like to hear from vteckidd.

Don't try to get ahead of yourself with some mods. Your motor will be happier with fresh parts.

understood...
i'm gonna end up just working on the bottom end first or just throwing it in stock and saving up more to do a complete build.

lets do it jeff, wish you could have rode in the b16 hatch we just did. it had oversized CTR's in there and let me tell you the butt dyno gave it 7
